TheEntity,

Even with a literal depiction of Hitler this might be the least nazi stonetoss comic I've seen in a while.

TheEntity,

What a time to be alive! We have gaming phones but not a single decent mobile game that's not just a port from PC.

TheEntity,

Just for the sake of correctness: phones almost definitely do have virtual memory, that's how any modern memory allocation works. You probably meant swap files/partitions.

TheEntity,

Oh, they actually do name it so! https://www.windowscentral.com/how-change-virtual-memory-size-windows-10

I was under impression Linux uses the term swap partition (or swap file if it's in a file which is much less common) while Windows calls them either swap files or paging files. Looks like you're right and Windows uses these terms interchangeably.

TheEntity,

GDPR doesn't require them to ask if they would just not violate our privacy. In other words, it's perfectly legal to assume "no" if they have no means of asking.

TheEntity,

He means that the subscribers don't stop buying games elsewhere. They do both instead of migrating from one model to the other.

TheEntity,

It is. But the industry would rather have all of us subscribing because that's a constant profit and they love constant profit. They'd rather have 100% subscribing and 0% buying than 10% subscribing and 100% buying.

TheEntity,

Truth. I have a decent amount of spare Google Rewards credit to spend on games but there are no good games to get. (any recommendations?)

TheEntity,

I actually considered going back to Polytopia and grabbing a tribe or two. Can you recommend any specific one if you were to choose only one?

TheEntity,

Youtube Music worked just fine with uBO the last time I checked, and not a single ad either.

TheEntity, (edited )

Do you have any source on that? I planned to get one soon and that's worrying. So far I've found this post after a quick search, which claims PD is supported.

TheEntity,

did people forgot how to customize their android?

Sadly yes. It's especially evident to me whenever LineageOS is mentioned as THE way to install a non-standard OS. Not that long ago there were dozens of options for each device and Cyanogenmod (the grandpa of LineageOS) was just one of them, albeit a quite large one.

TheEntity,

Yes, good points about the locked bootloaders etc. I guess I cannot compare the beforetimes to now for this reason.

As for the non-stock launchers, even back then the typical users were scared of changing launchers, assuming they would need to do that scary rooting thing and even if not, changing their launcher would surely void the warranty. I'm not kidding.

Excuse me for this rant-like jaded comment, I guess I needed to vent.

TheEntity,

Elon Musk: "...and I took that personally"

TheEntity,

Do we really own any games at all? We own licenses, nothing more. Even if it's on a DVD.

TheEntity,

It's not about whether they actually care. It's about whether I'm worried they might care. It's very stressful for neurodivergent people.

TheEntity,

There is no "best WM", only "best WM for you". If you're deep enough into this rabbit hole to install an alternative WM, at this point you're the best judge of what's the best, really.

TIL eating 1 gram polar bear liver can be fatal due to an overdose of vitamin A that makes your skin fall off (animals.howstuffworks.com)

A healthy human liver contains 575 international units (IU) of vitamin A per gram while a polar bear’s liver contains between 24,000 and 35,000 IU per gram. Compare that to the tolerable upper level of vitamin A intake for a healthy adult human: 10,000. Signs of toxicity generally occur when approximately 25,000 to 33,000 IU...

TheEntity,

And yet they were perfectly okay with providing the service for free while they were still busy starving off the competition. No tears for Google shall be shed here.

TheEntity,

We can simultaneously move along and criticize their decisions as exploitative double-dipping on their users. Criticizing them thankfully doesn't require a subscription, or even an account.

TheEntity,

Just wait for some corporate white knight to come here and explain how EU is stopping innovation. Love these guys, I always have a bag of popcorn at the ready.

TheEntity,

The USB-C (female) adapters are hard to find due to technically being non-compliant. If you're interested about the reasons and some further context, I can recommend this article: https://hackaday.com/2022/12/27/all-about-usb-c-illegal-adapters/

In your specific case, it's twice as hard to find such an adapter due to MiniUSB being so uncommon these days.

TheEntity,

As a lifetime PC gamer, I wholeheartedly agree. There were many console games I had been envious about in the PS2, PS3 or PS4 era. Now? Nope, nothing. Partially because the industry got so bad I'm hardly interested in most new games, but the exclusives are pretty much non-existent in the genres I'm interested in.

TheEntity,

I swear, soon the terms "fediverse" and "federated" will get muddled up like when people have been saying "open source" when they mean "free (as in free beer)".
