I hit a deer while riding my motorcycle. I saw it crossing the road from my left, tried to evade it, heard the bang of my fairing hit it, and next thing I knew I was lying on my back looking up at the sky. I ended up with a shattered collarbone, broken ribs, and some road rash on my left side. I have absolutely no memory of falling or sliding at all (and I'm okay with that).
The most likely explanation for why I survived was that I was only going 30 mph (50 kph). That same day another rider wasn't so lucky. There was a husband and wife in one of the cars behind me that were both EMTs and I got experienced care right away. Plus, I was wearing boots, gloves, a leather jacket, and a full-face helmet. The road rash was from my jeans wearing through during the slide.
Since currently Lemmy is mostly made up of nerds, I’d like to know what browsers you use and why? You could just upvote the comment with your browser of choice if you don’t want to explain.
So I’ve switched to lemmy since the reddit meltdown started, experienced quite some withdrawal symptoms, occasionally turned back to reddit, more often logged out than logged in. Now I am merely using Lemmy occasionally and by far not as often as I used reddit before. No more doom scrolling....
It's really different, that's for sure. The front page is full of subreddits I've never seen much (or any) of before. Comments on posts seem lower by an order of magnitude on the most popular ones. I don't know about site visits but engagement seems way down. How u/spez will spin it for the IPO remains to be seen.
I had an '85 Dodge Omni GLH (turbo) where that had the oil drain plug directly over a cross member. I don't know if that was standard in the Omni or added for the GLH but when you drained the oil it just went everywhere. My oil drain pan wasn't big enough to catch it all. I stopped doing my own oil changes on that car.
I am looking to start getting into this. But I have never enjoyed writing. I also feel a little iffy knowing that my diaries are sitting around somewhere in my room and my family can find it at any moment. If I were to type it would be faster, more secure as I can encrypt it, and it would not get lost as easily as I can upload...
I was actually somewhat ok with going back to certain Reddit communities (although NOT just mindless scrolling) after the blackout. There's a lot of communities where (I thought) there's literally no alternatives....

Did anyone try to return to reddit and notice it just didn't do it for you anymore?

Seriously, couldn’t they just extend the tube a bit so it overhangs the exhaust pipe???
People who keep journals or diaries, do you hand write or type?
