The entire thing needs to be burned to the ground and started fresh. We need to close the stock market as well, it only harms literally everyone that isn't in the Investor class of humans. Figure out Capital a different way if need be, but the way we're doing it is literally killing all of us, and the vast majority of species on the planet currently.
You can't be on what amounts to the bleeding edge of Social Media and expect your friends to be as well unless they're all nerds that actually care about such things (like all of us clearly are).
No social media site started with millions of users and all of your friends. They all started small, and slowly grew to that size.
People have flocked to Bluesky and Threads. But the new platforms risk repeating a pattern that has caused social media giants to turn against their own users.
I take it you don't remember the old internets chatrooms, that's why Discord is popular. It scratches a very specific itch, Live Chat. Social Media scratches a very similar itch, but with a platform that is forum based, not chat based.
Throw in the old Social Media, like ICQ, MSN Messenger, AOL Messenger, etc. and you begin to see that live chat is absolutely a feature that people want. Sometimes they want a "room" where a bunch of like minded people are, sometimes they want to talk to specific people.
Social Media as a concept has gone through a lot of iterations.
If as the purchaser you don't outright own the product you've purchased, then there's no reasonable argument that it's "stealing" if you pirate that product instead. At best it's copyright infringement, and they can come at me in small claims court.
There was a competition for UK superfans last month. They said they’d let entrants know by June 29th so I just assumed I hadn’t won anything. I’m so excited!
Congrats, it's always cool to win stuff...but hasn't the Google Pixel Fold been getting some astoundingly bad reviews? Bad like it's failing within 24 hours of use kind of bad. I hope that isn't the case, or they at least provide something else if they scrap the Fold entirely.
I setup this community specifically because of the time I've spent over the years browsing and relying on reddit.com/r/sysadmin for sources of information on tips/tricks, security exploits & patches, outages, and yes even the ranting about how our jobs all suck. (I like mine, for what it's worth.)...
I've legitimately worked for places that think like that. I did just have an interview at a place that sounds like they legitimately understand how massive the umbrella term "IT" actually is.
Last place thought I was a cost to businesses after I got everything running smoothly. They're somewhere in the neighbourhood of $150,000 in outsourced IT costs so far this year.
Reddit went through some issues for many on Monday, with the outage happening the same day as thousands of subreddits going dark to protest the site’s new API pricing terms....
He's been a gigantic asshole for his entire (public) life. It's too bad effectively 100% of "leadership" are the least skilled anything resembling actual leadership, regardless of corporate structure.

I know it's wishful thinking but I really hope all the media coverage of the protests will tank Reddits upcoming IPO.
