It's solely about legal issues if your AI has been trained on unlicensed data (Midjourney, Playground AI, etc.). We don't really have laws that handle these cases yet, so valve wants to err on the save side.

Everything else is still allowed. Even AI generated content is still allowed if it's trained on your own (or licensed) data.

darkevilmac,

They do get paid, when a user leaves the original site to visit the publisher and views their ads.

A taxi driver doesn't pay the business that they drive you to for giving them the opportunity to drive you there. You pay the driver for getting you there and then you pay the business you wanted to reach.

This is very much just the huge Canadian media corporations lobbying the Federal government to get more money for no additional work. Something they're very good at by now.

Thank you so much for your support! 😍

I just saw an email from Buy Me a Coffee. Not just one. I went in, and I'm truly shocked. Thank you all for the support; I would like to thank each and every one of you individually someday. Honestly, I don't know what to say. The account balance is $350, which will definitely allow me to develop kbin faster or at least not...

In case anyone is wondering, this is the link.

This is super nice, but I think (and hope) you're going to need a lot more than $350 very soon!

Negative_Pair_5694,

I have seen https://opencollective.com/ used a lot to collect donations in a transparent way (also supporting crypto payments). Maybe that is something you want to look into as well.

/kbin - Just Reddit Things update

Hey, once again, I welcome the newcomers. It's great to see new faces here :) It seems that we've managed to resolve the server issue. Unfortunately, I had to temporarily disable certain features, such as content auto-refresh. It will be restored at the beginning of next week after the infrastructure change, so you'll get to...

zombiepiratefromspace,

First up, thanks for your hard work!

Nevertheless, we are still running on a budget VPS.

As things are currently developing, it is almost a certainty that all reddit alternatives on the fediverse will get absolutely hammered on the 12th.

I know you are working on an infrastructure update. I just sent you a few bucks via buymeacoffee to support that. However, it could well be possible that the new infrastructure will also become overwhelmed during the days following the 12th, requiring another update in short notice.

At some point, things might become really expensive.

What I'm trying to say is: Don't be hesitant to ask for donations. I think many of the users here right now are acutely aware of how important the next few days are going to be for the post-reddit fediverse ecosystem. Growth needs servers, servers need money and I'm sure many users would be willing to to chip in.

@EnglishMobster Sure, it's no secret. Everything I do is transparent, and I want others to benefit as much as possible from it. Kbin was designed with small instances in mind. Of course, there are optional components like Redis and Rabbitmq that increase the requirements a bit. It's hard for me to assess the impact on users at the moment. I've been maintaining my Polish instance (karab.in) for over a year with these two hetzner vps - 6eur-9eur/month + ~2$ s3 storage.

What game is improved the most by mods?

I know most of the Bethesda RPGs have massive mod support, and there's games like Minecraft that have more mods than anyone can imagine. I would consider those games pretty playable in their vanilla states. Would you say there are any games that were "saved" by modding? Or that are still kept alive by thriving modding...

Hiyoihoi,

Terraria, is still an excellent game but the Mod loader makes it tons better with plenty of feature mods and quality of life plus it is available from steam so easy set up.
