To continue with your analogy, the abused wife leaves for 2 days, giving herself time to find another place to live (kbin, Lemmy, Mastodon, etc.) or stays with family or old friends they lost touch with (Hacker News, Slashdot, Metafilter, Fark, specific hobby or interest forums, etc.). And when they come back they can let people know where they're moving to and encourage them to visit or maybe move, also (new magazines/communities). So the line of communication stays open.
Could you please tell me how to subscribe to a kbin magazine on Mastodon? I am registered for both but I kind of like my user experience a bit more on Mastodon. For example, how would I subscribe to kbin's chat magazine on Mastodon?

How do I subscribe to magazines that are on different instances, say on Lemmy, if I only have a kbin.social account? Also, how do I search for them on kbin? So far I am only able to subscribe to those on kbin.social. I also have registered on Mastodon.social and only know how to follow Mastodon accounts.
