To be frank, I'm not sure if replacing the single pane with double pane is: A - something I can afford at the moment and B - something I can DIY (which adds to point A)....
I've found that the tinting doesn't do much good. We have burglar bars on the inside of the window so as an experiment, I put my laser thermometer on the bars of a window that had tint vs one that had foil (both on the same wall) and it was a 15F difference. We're in TX, so it's been over 100 every day for the past two months or more.
What’s your insulation situation like?
Attic,
Attic probably could be better, but I've thrown some rolls over top of the old pink stuff that was up there. The attic being 122F is probably not helping at all. Getting a new roof soon (waiting on permits or whatever) so hopefully it's a venting issue that will be resolved.
walls,
Not too sure but I think mostly ok. Temp gun on internal vs external walls isn't too drastic.
ductwork?
I know they are very old, probably original. There were some leaks at the air handler that I believe I have taped up now.
Have you done a leak test to see where conditioned air is escaping?
I have not, and unsure how to do this.
Has your AC been serviced and in good operating order?
Condenser is only a few years old, Air handler was replaced a month or two ago. 2ton for 1550 sqft single story (if I was replacing both units I would have gone 3ton but money is tight and with the age of the outside unit it seemed like the best idea to just replace what I had to (old air handler was rusted out, probably leaking (and I think was mismatched coolant non-converted)
Wanting to relocate some wild frogs/toads, they seem to like a certain flower bed because the "night light" on the house brings the bugs. My thought is if I make another area enticing, they will go there.
The red 2x4 is the one I want to move/remove. I just need to get in that opening to insulate (was half done/ poorly done / very old). I know framing that hole would be the proper way, and I may, but I'm not trying to add more to my list right now.
Yeah, my assumption is the notched one is part of the original build and that the red one might have been added when the roof was last done (I just bought the house this year, not sure of history but I know the roof is overdue to replace). Why add another top plate?
I have started receiving mail for an LLC in another state... my home address is listed as "The principal address" and other than two mentions of the LLC filing from those states, I cannot find any information on what this LLC is... suggestions? (also, not sure if this is the right place to ask)
Single pane windows, would shutters be a frugal fix?
To be frank, I'm not sure if replacing the single pane with double pane is: A - something I can afford at the moment and B - something I can DIY (which adds to point A)....
Planning a solar system for the house, should I spend the 10k on a battery now, or will they get cheaper in the near future?
I saw that Anker (and others) are getting in the house battery game so I imagine that will make prices drop, but by how much and how soon?
Is there a solar powered light (for the yard) that attracts bugs, but is not a bug zapper?

Is this a load bearing 2x4?
