It's intended to be temporary, but I think recent events mean that Reddit is on a decline from which it will never recover its former glory. I'd like to see things move on to decentralized options precisely because it's difficult or impossible to rebuild a community like /r/flashlight.
I'm not sure if Lemmy, kbin, or something else will work out to be the community favorite, so I'm trying out both and would encourage others to do the same....
This question is especially for people who have joined in the last week. Have you used other fediverse platforms or is this your first time really using one? What do you think of it so far? Are you aware that you can comment on Lemmy posts with a Mastodon account?
No, and if you want to get technical, I'm not posting this from Lemmy, but kbin.
I've run Pleroma and Hubzilla before settling on Mastodon (eventually Glitch rather than vanilla Mastodon) on my own server, mostly for sharing pictures of birds.
