Zebrazilla

@Zebrazilla@kbin.social

The world is like a ride in an amusement park, and when you choose to go on it you think it's real because that's how powerful our minds are. Many people have been on the ride a long time, and they begin to wonder, "Hey, is this real, or is this just a ride?" And other people have remembered, and they come back to us and say, "Hey, don't worry; don't be afraid, ever, because this is just a ride." And we… kill those people.

It's just a ride.

Not much was lost. Both Gizmodo and Kotaku content have already been indistinguishable from poorly generated AI content for ages now.

It's also worth taking a look at Fallout 4 VR for anyone that's into VR. Mods stealthily makes it into the best and most immersive experience yet, in my heavily biased opinion.

You can start by boosting instead of using the arrow, which is actually currently only counting as favoriting and does nothing to counter any reduces on a post. It's an oversight that's being worked on and will eventually change, as I've understood it.

I highly recommend using nitter instances to look at content from Twitter. And with the excellent LibRedirect extension, the process becomes seamless and you can bounce between instances as you please.

The original Deus Ex is 86% off at 0,97€. Definitely worth it if you have yet to play this masterpiece! Just finished it myself on Steam Deck and worked like a charm.

  • Shakedown: Hawaii - 80% off at 3,99€ - Think GTA for the 16-bit era.
  • 2Dark - 90% off at 2,49€ - Think Alone in the Dark but top-down and in retro/voxel style, from the original creator of Alone in the Dark.
  • UnderRail - 60% off at 5,67€ - Hidden or not, this one can't be recommended enough to fans of the original Fallout (1 & 2, isometric) games.
  • Space Haven - 60% off at 8,79€ - In-depth colony/spaceship building & management sim with cozy graphics.
  • Crystal Caves HD - 60% off at 2,63€ - A true testament to how to faithfully bring an old platformer into HD, while also innovating on the original. Also contains a lot of hidden gems.
  • Supraland Complete Edition - 54% off at 15,71€ - First-Person-Metroidvania in a literal sandbox, lots of freedom, lots of puzzles and exploring. Contains the DLC. Get this to gear up for the eventual release of the sequel Supraworld. The standalone Supraland Six Inches Under is also worth getting, but is "only" at 45% off, which is still great.

Does the eMMC version allow installing an NVMe drive?

Yes, the only hardware difference between the different version is really only the screen and the drive it comes with. You can technically buy the 64GB version and replace the screen with an anti-glare one at a later date, as it can be bought as a spare part for not much.

Personally I got the 64GB some time ago and am still happy enough with just an SD-card with good speed and decent size. I suspect that will change down the line, but right now I'm happy.

It's the second time it's been discounted so far. The first time was on March 23rd this year, on Steam Deck's first birthday.

Fun fact, Cloudpunk was made by the same dev that made the now defunct and considerably cyberpunk MMO Face of Mankind. Which incidentally I would have recommended if it was still possible to play.

Highly recommend both the script Kbin Federation Awareness and kbin social add home-instance name to username. Makes it a lot easier to tell where things are originating from at a glance!

This, definitely this! The suspend feature is a lifesaver and really makes it so much more likely for me to stick with and finish a game that I truly enjoy.

Glad I chose kbin over lemmy at this point. I'm hoping @ernest to be more levelheaded and not wield the defederation hammer as lightly.

I'd prefer being able to see as much of the fediverse from one instance as possible.

Zebrazilla,

It's highly likely this is happening due to @ernest working on this aspect currrently. He said as much yesterday, so it's probably only temporary.

Should we make communities for specific games?

Something I miss from Reddit was that just about all my favorite games had their own subreddits. Like I happen to be a huge fan of Snowrunner but I don’t see any communities specifically about Snowrunner on Lemmy. But Elden Ring has a community on 2 instances with less than 100 subs total. I think the one hosted on Lemmy.world...

I think so, yes. Made @DeusEx for this reason.

Anyone know if there is a consistent way to link to magazines/communities? !DeusEx seems to be something I see, but doesn't seem to work on kbin.

Edit: Neither does @DeusEx, strange. How about just DeusEx@kbin.social?

Editedit: No automatic link for the latter. Maybe this is something that still needs to be worked on in kbin, and will get attention in due time.

Best places to get human reviews/recommendations outside of reddit?

Often times when duckduckgoing (is that the right term for that) advice for products, I use the !ddgr key to directly search reddit for advice. But in a post-blackout world, I need to do this a lot less. So I want to know what the best places are to get reviews and advice for products that are human and not top 10 listicals.

Zebrazilla,
Zebrazilla avatar

If you still want to target reddit, without overtly giving traffic to reddit, I highly recommend one of the many LibReddit instances. And with something like LibRedirect you could still be doing !ddgr and click any reddit links, and always get redirected directly to an appropriate LibReddit instance.

It seems like a tricky thing to deal with technically due to how the Fediverse works, and I know far too little about ActivityPub to feel comfortable with coming with any ideas. I would however like to point out what I think we'll be seeing more of with this trajectory. Here's someone on kbin getting called out for downvoting and also explicitly named in a comment: https://kbin.social/m/wholesome/t/80838/To-the-one-guy-who-keeps-downvoting-m-wholesome-threads

LibRedirect is a great way to access a wealth of sites like youtube, twitter, reddit, wikipedia, etc. via alternative privacy friendly frontends instead of directly.

While not an inherent guarantee of privacy, nothing really is, it makes the process of rotating randomly between these frontend instances for each visit a breeze, and easy to hop to a random new instance if the current one is down/not working as expected.

SteamDeck Refresh Rate Unlocker - Unlock the display panel to use up to 70Hz refresh rate! (github.com)

I want to share an awesome tool called SteamDeck Refresh Rate Unlocker that I recently discovered. This script offers the ability to unlock the refresh rate of your Steam Deck's display, extending beyond the default range of 40Hz to 60Hz. With this tool, you can now achieve a maximum refresh rate of 70Hz, and even lower rates...
