In the migration to lemmy, this community’s admins have the chance to drop its startlingly racist name. Wasn’t funny back then, and it’s still not funny.
Most people probably used to see it as mocking fascism (and the tendencies of brand/ecosystem fanboys to act like little tyrants) but these days I’m pretty sure they (the actual fascists) just welcome the free publicity.
You do know that rightwing fuckwits actively use people like you as a recruiting tool to show people examples of "how idiotic and heavy handed the left is" when giving them reasons to join up for their Hitlerjerk wank-ring organizations.
They literally make compilations of examples like this to create the narrative that the opposition has lost their minds and are coming for everyone's free speech with their cancel culture, and use this to argue that somehow nazism is clearly the reasonable choice in contrast.
And as ludicrous as that is, it actually works depressingly well.
A certain willingness to have a sense of humour is a worthwhile thing to have when online. Nobody is being threatened by a reference to a joke about the console wars and the PC Vs Console circlejerk.

Uhh if the posts here are anything to go by, a lot of the people who subscribe, or at least pay attention to the posts on here are right wing and so possibly actual racists, if not nazis. So maybe leave them this space so they can out themselves?

If your first thought when you hear this in very clear context is nazi crap over a pretty funny piece of gaming history then that sounds like a you problem, nobody should actually be offended by something as benign as this. If anything even if that is somehow the case, nazis should be laughed at and made fun of instead of holding 'their words' in some hush-hush revered taboo state. Just by making stupid threads like these and calling attention to it you're giving them way too much power over you than they deserve to have.
I definitely agree with Yahtzee that in retrospect the "PC Gaming Master Race" name didn't work out because the targets of the pejorative (as in elitist anti-console jackasses, not PC gamers as a whole) took it as an unironic badge of honour. "PC Gaming Dickslurp All-Stars" was funny.
God that’s an insufferable take, “if you don’t like it, leave without saying anything”? This is one post. A single one! I think speaking my mind is ok, and clearly some folks agree with me here. I think it’s a worthy discussion.
“Ignore and make your own” is honestly the most naive and spineless thing you can say. Imagine acting on that principle IRL, for instance, when people you consider your friends say or do something vile.
I really can’t agree that the name is funny. It affiliates everyone who wants to gather and talk about PCs with so-called “race scientists” who genocide in the name of a so-called “master race”. Can’t imagine wanting to associate with that, but its horrifying that people think it’s politically neutral to do so.
It is a community name with history and traction. You don't like the name, which is fair. What is your solution? Rehashing the same thread that others have had before you is a choice, but that should not be confused with a solution.
Your problem is that the community has this name. Renaming a community/magazine is not a thing. The only solution is to convince people to create a new community and move the circlejerk there, and the first step is for someone to create it.
If you're going to operate from a perspective that the onus shouldn't be on you to put in this work, then who are you trying to convince to do the work for you? One of the moderators? Some random person subbed to the existing community who isn't you? Then you should probably be directing your focus at achieving that objective instead of invoking the old man yells at cloud meme, well-intentioned or not.

Because that's not the connection, and you didn't make it because you're not looking for silly reasons to get upset over. The symbolism of dark vs light, fire vs darkness predates modern notions of racism and according to a quick wiki check, the etymology of the word blacklist has no relation to the color of anyone's skin either.

This thread violates Rule 2 - “Be respectful. Everyone should feel welcome here.”, and also violates parts of Rule 1. Locking it down as it got too political and mean.
