@sendingmath Macron is coming out for the family, against the police

https://www.bbc.com/news/world-europe-66045686

"French President Emmanuel Macron came out quickly and strongly in support of the family of 17-year-old Nahel M, calling his shooting by police "inexplicable and inexcusable".

The teenager was shot in his car in the Paris region after failing to stop when ordered to by traffic police.

Video of the incident on social media shows an officer pointing a gun at the driver of a car. The officer then appears to fire at point-blank range as the driver tries to drive off.

Prime Minister Élisabeth Borne said the video of his killing contained "shocking images showing a police intervention manifestly in contravention of the rules".

And Interior Minister Gérald Darmanin said that if the "content of the video is confirmed, there is no way that the act which we see there can be justified."

It looks very much as if the government has made a coordinated effort to send out a message of appeasement and pacification.

The police unions are not happy."

Block function not working quite right

Hey, just wanted to mention this thing I noticed. So I blocked a user after a few rounds in a thread, but when they responded to me, I still got the notification and could still see the first line of their post from that screen. But the entire comment thread, including my own replies, was invisible from the article page until I...

@DarkGamer I very much doubt the chaos is over. It will just come up from another source, in another way. Putin is doomed

There are plenty of physical and behavioural differences but some of their preferred habitats overlap. When you say 'integrated', that doesn't mean they're interbreeding. Just hanging out in the same areas, chasing different food.

This site says the straw-necked ibis is "Highly nomadic, moving in search of suitable habitat."

@Treevan It certainly sums up some of the main reasons I love living here, even if Sandgate itself is out of my reach :)

@GloomyBagel me, no. I found out how to strip location data from individual images on Preview, and how to prevent it being imbedded in the image. But I like having the image recorded because it tells me where I was. I just wasn't aware that the images on Social Media had that info saved. So...I'll be careful in future. Not sure how to fix the rotation problem other than what you suggest. Thanks!

@GloomyBagel is there any way to edit the image to make it display properly for all devices? I'm not worried about privacy - I mean, I told you all where I took it - but I don't want it to be upside down!

@Treevan

Plan for Gabba tower cites affordable housing ... but doesn’t include any (www.brisbanetimes.com.au)

“Due to the prominent inner-city location of the site, the provision of affordable dwellings within the building is not considered appropriate. Units within the development will, however, be an aspirational purchase decision for many who will use the purchase to elevate themselves up the property ladder,” Saunders Havill...

@Zagorath " the provision of affordable dwellings within the building is not considered appropriate"

Not considered appropriate by whom? (I mean, I can guess)

" Units within the development will, however, be an aspirational purchase decision"

Wow that is some bullshit :(

@Zagorath

No conflict of interest there then :(

How widely do you define Brisbane when you're talking to people who live outside the SEQ region?

Do you strictly interpret 'Brisbane' as the BCC area, or will you tell people you live 'in Brisbane' when you're just shy shy of Caloundra, Ipswich, or Toowoomba? I will always call Redcliffe, 'Brisbane', even though it was established long before Brisbane, but exclude Ipswich, but I don't have any good reason for either....

@Zagorath There are a few women's sheds starting up too. But the libraries are a good gender-neutral space. Council nurseries could be another outlet.

@Zagorath Do you think maybe Men's Sheds and similar could step up and provide local access? The trouble with lawn mowers though is that they need to be maintained, and they use consumables.

Tool libraries are a brilliant idea though

@DerisionConsulting "it's not really all that tragic"

It's actually the classical definition of tragedy - an awful result that comes from the protagonist's hubris
