people didn't want to express a different opinion than what the 'masses' have already decided on, because they would be downvoted and lose karma
Critical difference. Reddit had groupthink literally enforced by the software. If you had negative karma in a subreddit and you tried to post, it would say "You are doing that too much, please wait 8 minutes to post again", even if your last post was 2 weeks ago.
/bin is the standard Unix/Linux directory to put the general Unix commands in. "bin" is short for "binaries". "binaries" meant runable programs, as opposed to program source code.

[Despite the heatwave, Texas’s Republican governor, Greg Abbott, recently signed a state bill that nullifies local city ordinances enacted by the cities of Austin and Dallas that require 10-minute water breaks for construction workers every four hours.]

Curious about if there is any discernable difference anyone can see if they may have popped in to Reddit today? I know it's probably naive to think there would be a big difference first day....
Star Trek's Federation has put Starfleet through a lot of uniform updates over the franchise's 55 years. A lot. Here's every major uniform change, all the way from Enterprise to Discovery's upcoming fourth season.
Recently I was finishing Discovery S4 and at the same time listening to Star Trek Excelsior podcast S3. They both involved threats to the Federation home worlds. But I noticed that I was interested way more about what would happen next on Excelsior than I did about Discovery.
I discovered yesterday evening that Lemmy.ml is blocking all inbound ActivityPub requests from /kbin instances. Specifically, a 403 'access denied' is returned when the user agent contains "kbinBot" anywhere in the string. This has been causing a cascade of failures with federation for many server owners, flooding the message...
Google would probably like to take over the user generated content somehow. If people can find it on Google even when it is not available on Reddit then it is pure profit for Google
All they would have to do is start Deja News (the most famous free Usenet server and archive) back up. They could do it tomorrow if they wanted to. And I guarantee you it would be talked about on /s/redditalternatives and /m/RedditMigration
During the 3rd and 4th season of Discovery there were some characters I hated so much I always skipped right over them. I also skipped right over Burnham whenever she was expressing an emotion.
Seems like a win win. Reddit is fine with it and becomes a site promoting that Taiwan is a country and spreading awareness of Tiananmen Square massacre 1989. While subs return to normal....
The approval rating for the CCP is very high (much higher than democratic countries in the West).
First of all NEVER EVER believe that a dictatorship has a "very high approval rating". (1) the people have never approved them ever, and (2) If their approval rating really was "very high", there would be no reason at all not to allow democracy. (3) naive westerners have a long and famous history about being repeatedly conned by dictatorships.
And 2nd LOL that is obvious BS. This happened LESS THAN A YEAR AGO.
differences between west germany / east germany v taiwan / china
Dude, I already knew all that stuff. So what? None of that is relevant to what I said. The fact remains that (1) Taiwan's government could be extremely useful in helping China convert to democracy in a stable manner, and (2) It is totally impossible for Taiwan to unify with China unless China becomes democratic like Taiwan. So since #2 is a necessity, it follow that #1 will always be a very important consideration.
It's not. The PRC simply needs to apply become part of the Republic of China again. That is literally all it takes. The rest is just details.
they really do support the CCP.
They really do not. We've had the Covid protests, the Hong Kong protests, and the Democracy Wall protests. When the Communist dictatorship is overthrown, it will happen fast, and Taiwan's help will be needed for their expertise in democracy. Also, the current dictator is literally the very worse one since 1976.
independent organizations have done studies in China.
It is literally impossible for "independent organizations" to objectively "study China". But in general dictatorships NEVER have more than 15-25% or so of the population. Your stance that Chinese do not want freedom and democracy and control over their own country seems racist. Your stance that only white people want and are capable of having freedom and democracy is totally obsurd.
it's very possible. it's happening right now in Hong Kong.
Because Britain foolishly turned control of Hong Kong to Beijing instead of Taipei. If China tried to invade Taiwan it would result in another Ukraine situation, where the entire free world unites against the imperialist aggressors.
I support Taiwan too. I prefer Democracies over authoritarian regimes.
No you don't. Let's be real here. You are an apologist for the Communist tyranny. You do not understand how obvious it is but no American would ever say what you said.
The Texas Nationalist Movement’s mission is to secure and protect the political, cultural, and economic independence of the nation of Texas. It’s time to TEXIT.
You ARE advocating treason. Why do you hate America?
Putting secession on the ballot is part of the Republican Party of Texas's official platform.
Then why is it not on the ballot? Radical Republicans have controlled the corrupt state government for the last 30+ years. Also you are saying that the state Republican Party officially endorses anti-American treason? Even if a majority of Texans instead of a tiny minority of neofascists supported secession, it is unconstitutional according to settled law. It would be like putting the reinstitution of slavery on the ballot. That would never be allowed. Too bad for you that my country has the most powerful army in the world and us loyal Americans would swat you America hating traitors like a bug.
