conciselyverbose,

Fuck twitter, but they have to win.

Rulings that hold platforms accountable for user-generated content completely fuck any free speech left on the internet. There are already mechanisms for them to get infringing content removed, and suing the platform isn't it.

conciselyverbose,

I almost embrace the bugs.

The reality is you can't have a perfectly polished game at that scale with that much variety. There's a reason, for all its faults, that even some PC players were still paying the $30 sale price on Skyrim for switch before the Steam Deck launched. There are very few games with that scope, or that evoke that sense of awe, that get made. Skyrim might not have had the different skill trees balanced, and the memes of everyone turning into a stealth archer eventually have some validity, but it did make a lot of different play styles functional at a grand scale.

I hope that Starfield has the same ambition to make a massive RPG, just with some modern mechanics. A good chunk of the memes about the game are because people played the game 50 times. Repetition is going to stick out, especially before you can branch out. But having it watered down to avoid bugs would be extremely disappointing.

conciselyverbose,

Yeah, I wanted him to be the odd man out. Obviously until we see the young guys for real we don't know what they are, but the idea of Strong's speed is game changing if used well. Harris might not be flashy, but as a second downhill back I want young legs.

As a veteran multiple option, Montgomery can do more as a route runner out of the backfield, and (as a change of pace) line up at receiver here or there to change the look. Health is the concern, but it was with Robinson, too. Given cutting Robinson this fast, though, they almost definitely think he straight up can't play any more. I don't think it means positive about anyone else for the simple reason that there's a long time before the season and depth is important. If he's your fifth guy, you keep him until cutdowns in case one of the first four gets banged up.

conciselyverbose,

This is hilarious.

They already were killing the experience by tanking the algorithm, and there was straight up no path to me ever using the mobile site or their horrendous app, but their full on meltdown in response to the backlash is next level.

conciselyverbose,

Definitely subscribing. It's kind of the dead part of the year until training camps but I'll be looking forward to engaging at that point.

And I guess when we see where Hopkins and Cook go could be interesting. As a Pats fan I'm coming around on Hopkins number being something I'd consider the longer he stays out there. I still think there's significant downside risk after an offseason with less juice, but (assuming we can block) the upside is a pretty versatile offense with an excellent defense. You could make noise that way.

I'm real interested in Cook's number. I really like the player he was, but even if he still is, he's a RB. It's just not worth what he was due.

conciselyverbose,

All I really need is modern-ish skyrim but in space.

And I get that they really didn't show a lot of gameplay.

But man am I waiting to see if this game can be something. There really hasn't been anything since Skyrim to really capture that massive sense of exploration. Elden Ring keeps getting bigger when it already feels huge is close, but that's honestly it. Nothing else captures that sense of awe.

conciselyverbose,

The battery takes USB C and lets you use it indefinitely plugged in. We'll have to see the power draw but there effectively has to be the ability to use a third party battery pack with the official one.

The price is high but for what it is I think it's super aggressive honestly. I don't think you'd find anyone else bringing a dumb headset at that resolution and latency without passthrough or the fact that it's a computer for much under $2k.

(Definitely out of my budget, but I'm using it as motivation to get my shit together and finally start writing apps to sell and see if I can make enough to justify the price to myself.)

conciselyverbose,

You could already do it in VR with sufficient pixel density.

There's really nothing out there (and definitely not cheaper) that's a real option for a virtual display with heavy text.

conciselyverbose,

Yeah, I'll very likely never use it, but it's absolutely a huge deal.

I was watching the presentation for the Vision Pro, but I was honestly pretty happy with a lot of the OS changes across the board. None of the rest was groundbreaking, but there were a lot of small cool changes.

conciselyverbose,

Apple already had the best AR ecosystem out there with the crappy phone version. It's far more accessible to develop for that than any of the other headsets out there. Software is what ultimately makes AR work, and Apple is the only one democratizing it. It's the same thing they did for phone apps.

The other headsets are all truly bad. They're either projecting bad, extremely low quality images on the actual outside world, or they have dumpster fire tier passthrough. There's straight up nothing you can buy even sort of comparable to the Vision Pro's full resolution/color real time passthrough. That in and of itself is a complete gamechanger.

It's not groundbreaking for VR, except for again, the resolution. You cant use existing headsets to have floating monitors full of dense text, because the resolution isn't enough to make them clean enough to read. But they're not selling it as VR anyways (though it will be by far the most powerful standalone headset out there the day it launches and tethers kind of suck).

One point about your "first forays into immersive AR/VR" comment, though. I don't think it's the case for the people I watched, as they're mostly enthusiasts very into the cutting edge of tech. But, the fact that most people haven't really experienced it is a big part of why it hasn't taken off. Apple's reach is insane. This version isn't for mass market, but it probably is for a pretty sizable one purely on the strength of being Apple (before also being hands down the best option at any price). It's enough for enthusiasts and developers to get their hands on and start to build apps, and for the mass market who can't manage the high price point to start to pay attention. When they figure out how to get the price down and release the non-pro cut down version in a couple years, the market and ecosystem are going to be ready for it.
