Some good ideas, like pinned tabs. (Will soon be copied I would think.)
Some concerning: lots of data apparently gets sent to Google, unless you turn if off/
Some features I would miss from Firefox, particularly containers. I have walled off some companies (like Meta) and use them to easily access multiple accounts at others (like Mastodon.social)
But the biggest question is: what's their business model? They have venture investment.
@J12t Not quite the same, but you can create separate profiles that keep that stuff separate. You'd just have to make a space with a profile for each website you want fully separate.
Has anyone done some testing/validation to see if we should be using Chrome's battery/power management settings or Arc is doing their own thing? I noticed the settings from Chrome are disabled.

As someone who aggressively adblocks everything, one of the final places that ads can still reach me is in annoying ad reads within podcasts. Youtube sponsorblock is incredible but it seems no one has yet adapted this for podcasts. Has anyone else managed to find a solution here? As far as i can tell in my googleing, this...
That's a decent solution, but unfortunately doesn't have handy podcast app features like silence trimming, voice boosting, etc. Great suggestion though!
Maybe I just miss Reddit is Fun, not Reddit, but I still have RiF installed (I just can't delete it) and it still "works". I can't sign in or participate, but fuck I miss browsing everything. I've definitely replaced it with Kbin, but opening the RiF app just gives me sadness. Fuck spez.
I'll admit I do. And I won't like, I'll still append "Reddit" to my searches as needed. I'm just not really actively contributing or anything there anymore, which is sad
Pretty cool, especially considering how it's been shown that WiFi can be used to pretty accurately determine the position and number of people in a room with AI.
Edited below. I imagine many of us are here from reddit, where hashtags weren't really a thing and in many places mentions were actively discouraged (/r/politics I'm looking at you). However, since everything we post or comment on kbin (and lemmy) has the potential of getting federated on a mastodon server, which leans heavily...
I’ll start. Did you know you can run a headless version of JD2 on a raspberry pi? It’s not the greatest thing in the world, but sometimes its nice to throw a bunch of links in there and go to sleep.
I recently got into the piracy community, and discovered a great open source app for Android that allows you to stream music for free from YouTube music! It’s called ViMusic and it’s one of the best free music apps imo. It has a beautiful and customizable interface and it actually has a music recommendation algorithm which...
That works. F-Droid is an alternative to the Play store. You can also download the .apk directly instead if you prefer. Just scroll down to the versions and find the most recent.
So I’ve been torrenting for over a year now (just in time to get attached to RARBG and get my heart broken) and mostly loving it. Now that I have access to actual high quality files I’ve been looking to improve my home setup. I was wondering what setups people have and what I should aspire to....
Does anyone have any advice on whether to use #threads or #microblogs when you're looking to say, start a discussion about a topic on #kbin? Is there an etiquette for what option is best? Or do people just pick depending on their mood (having a Twitter vs a Reddit sort of a day)?
@NudelnAlDente Not sure there's really any set ways, but I'd personally use a microblog with hashtags if I wanted some reach beyond kbin or the community I'm posting to. That said, it seems like folks on kbin might favor threads in general, perhaps because it's most similar the posts on Reddit where many of us have come from.
Designer here. You could try searching for communities on the fediverse dedicated to design/web design/3D/etc and contacting someone if you like their work or just making a post about it if allowed, or a mastodon/microblog post with lots of related hashtags. Or if you really wanna widen the net, you can try looking on Twitter/Threads/Dribbble/etc. for people you like and contacting them.

"According to ancient and medieval science, aether, also known as the fifth element or quintessence, is the material that fills the region of the universe beyond the terrestrial sphere. "
@NormalTownLeader Hmm -- doesn't seem to me. They compare themselves to Reddit on their about page. I think it's just the fact that it is an app and has a similar layout to Discord that gives those vibes. The actual communities and posting style seem more Reddit/forum to me, or perhaps a hybrid of sorts.
