you missed the point where the open source devs were in a constant race to adapt to all the google-"innovations" and actually troubleshoot on them which ends up demotivating
because by collecting votes and favorites one can create a full spectrum profile of a user. However, if I decide to write a couple of sentences publicly I already know that it will be scrapped by unlimited companies and I agree that we have to just accept that it will be happening.
first of all I'd like to say that i'm very concerned about my online privacy. However what you ask is, with all due respect, delusional.
The only way to prevent this is by moving in closed gate environment where you know the participants. It is impossible to stop all the scrappers or the AIs by posting #nobots. This game is already over and you just consume your mental energy fighting a lost war.
The moment you are posting something online publicly it will be scrapped by unlimited companies. Consider it a fact. Even if lets say the biggest of companies due to public relations reasons, respect such tag, there are unlimited other smaller companies/entities/whatever that will give no fuck at all. If they scrap it, then they can even sell it to the larger companies and your data is again there. It is unpreventable. It is like going in from of other people and telling them "don't look, look away". Ok so what, they have already looked and they look again when you turn away.

Case in point, vive.im I've been noticing spam in one magazine from a user of this. I banned them, but they can still post for some reason. Decided to visit the instance and it looks like some default...
i don't agree. I think it is important to maintain a blacklist instead of a whitelist where people would then submit what they need to add which will then will need to be approved etc. It will decrease the federated experience.
you don't need to visit the pages of the other instances directly. If you visit them, then no, the same login is not working.
But you can find the content of other instances inside your "own" instance. For example the main community of that instance can be found here https://kbin.social/m/feddit@feddit.online
looks like you weren't here the previous days. There is serious problem with cloudflare and federation since cloudflare will start blocking all the attempts of other intances trying to communicate with your instance. The browser JS validation, has to be turned off.

True. But in due time you'll end up in situation where few of these (or maybe even one) becomes the "go to" community, because it has best/largest discussions - just like on Reddit. We're still at the start of this journey. Also, the other instances are their "own thing". Maybe that's fragmentation, but essentially they might be aimed for completely different demographic (the users of that particular instance).
while technically you're correct, what I see as different that I think needs improvement, is the discoverability. It is needed to somehow when I search for e.g. technology to also see the various federated "technology" communities. If I have to manually search for an instance, find the correct handle, then go search for this handle in my own instance and only after that to be able to subscribe, it adds a difficulty on the level that I may never manage to know about the existence of some other communities (magazines). Apart from that, I agree it is totally fine to just let them organically grow and it will sort itself out on which one I may want to participate more.

I liked reddit's approach. Self upvoting your posts if they aren't upvoted feels ridiculous. (ok, I have upvoted 1-2 of mine when trying to figure out how it works, but it still feels ridiculous)
So I would prefer if they are already pre-upvoted, or you should not be allowed to vote your posts/comments

this is not that simple. If a user joins an instance that has only a few users they will get disappointed because it will look empty and non-active. They need to understand that they can still join communities from another instances where they can find more users and activity and they can still interact with them
it already works, partially. You can go to search and try pasting "asklemmy@lemmy.ml" . You need only the community name, if you paste the whole URL it is not working. Then, if you click on the community name's, you are transferred to https://kbin.social/m/asklemmy@lemmy.ml which is essentially the content from that community, but "inside" your current instance. The problem now is that this content is stuck in 2 days ago, when the issue with cloudflare started. When fixed, content will start being updated
without having read the activity pub protocol, what I understand is that it is "push" instead of "pull". And this is the reason that it is not updated now, because other instances are trying to "push" their updates but cloudflare blocks them because it is one server making constantly connections. If it was "pull" then cloudflare doesn't have any reason to block it.

there is an inconsistency I have noticed between kbin and lemmy in the format that such links are presented. The problem is in the exclamation mark. In lemmy it is required to show it is a community, however here it is not
For example if you write it as https://kbin.social/m/formula1@lemmy.ml you'll see it works. (Ok, the content is outdated because of the known problems but the you get the point)

you're right about the second one in which it doesn't find anything. I suspect it has to do with the known issues with cloudflare which prevents federation to work correctly and I believe it will be solved in the near future
