How many of you are still working full-time remote and how is it going? If not, why not? Was the decision made by you to go back to the office or did your employer decide for you?

I am still working full-time remote. There are definitely some social aspects of going to the office I miss, but I really don't miss the commute or the shitty office politics. Overall I feel I am still more productive from home and happier overall.

feyo,

Had my company write me being full remote into my contract next negotiation cycle.

That way they can’t take it away.

Still happy being remote. So much more flexibility. Sometimes I take an hour break and take a nap. Completely impossible in office.

feyo,

You are correct. They can however stop doing business with whoever is distributing their source, which makes getting new versions of the source harder.

This is what the dude selling „hardened“ versions of Linux is doing. Can’t remember the name and I don’t care to give him advertisement anyway, but he simply stops selling you new versions if you distribute old ones.

feyo,

Yeah, that’s it.

feyo,

Never came to Europe and I’ve never played it before.

I’m interested in trying it out when it releases.

feyo, (edited )

Rakuten itself is also a proxy? Or what proxy did you use?

feyo,

Hab für die Pombären gestimmt.
Ich hasse diese dummen Marketing Versuche mit "X% weniger Zucker/Fett" nur um es noch ungesünder zu machen auf andere Art.

feyo,

I like looking for issues that are tagged as „good first issue“.

There are sites that make this even easier.

https://goodfirstissue.dev/

Look for projects that you think you might want to support in a language you know and help them out in those issues.

feyo,

Nextcloud News

Does well enough and I use Nextcloud for various other things already.
So no real reason to use anything else.

What's your opinion about Manjaro? (lemmy.world)

I've seen a lot of people who quite dislike Manjaro, and I'm not really sure why. I'm myself am not a Manjaro user, but I did use it for quite a while and enjoyed my experienced, as it felt almost ready out of the box. I'm not here to judge, just wanted to hear the opinion of the community on the matter. Thanks!

feyo,

I like the idea and used Manjaro for a few years, but its run by less competent people than Id like (or at least in comparison to other distros), so I stopped and moved to a different distro.

feyo,

Yeah. Extensions are a must have and the reason I use Safari on iOS, even though I use Firefox everywhere else.

feyo,

Been on Wayland for a few years. It’s not always been sunshine and roses, but neither has X.

I still remember being really annoyed everytime I had to edit Xorg.conf files and finding my desktop to no longer boot or mouse to no longer work.

Building a smart home in 2023, where to start?

Hey all, we're moving into a new place soon and I want to start making it a smart home. I have some experience with wifi-based smart bulbs from TP-Link Kasa and a ring camera, but that's about it. I need to update the switches in the house anyway, so I figure that's a good place to start....

feyo,

If you already have Google Home and are happy with it I’d recommend looking for devices that are compatible with that.

However, personally, I’d question how long anything Google will last.
Especially on a home scale. Will you need to buy new things in 5years because they aren’t supported in the newest version, or god forbid Google Home is cancelled?

I’m in the same boat as @Renno, in that I use Home Assistant, however I would caution here as well as it is more complex and technical in how you make everything work together. Plus side is that you aren’t beholden to a single company‘s ecosystem.

feyo,

Would love for a co-op or shared world or something like it.

Not sure how many others would be interested in this though.
