Thanks for the suggestion! I'll add that to my next update, I also found an issue with retrieving the magazine name if you're in a magazine feed that I need to fix.
btdig and knaben are both torrent search engines, and the Internet Archive is another good place to search for hard to find videos. None of them turned up Transexual Menace, but they did find Rurangi.
Seems like you didn't really understand my point. Meta is very averse to, for example, any NSFW content, or using words that aren't G-rated to talk about other people. I do not think there will be a slow creep of Meta federating with server by server, because I do not think 99% of servers are willing to abide by those restrictions. If you want me to make up numbers, I think Meta will federate with 10 servers, at most, and that's it.
The other part of the equation, from what I understand, is authorized fetch. If servers implement that, that prevents Threads from accessing their content from a middle-man server if defederated.
So no, I don't want to federate with them. But I also think that writing off kbin because Ernest hasn't already defederated is a premature, knee-jerk reaction.
Yep, and if Threads is enforcing the same TOS as Instagram, there’s no way that Meta is going to open the doors to the fediverse in general. I expect that when Meta does enable federation, it will be with a small number of vetted servers that agree to follow their TOS as well.
I understand people’s concerns with Threads, and don’t want to touch it with a ten foot pole myself, but a lot of the reaction posts are sensationalized.
Threads is setting itself up to be a sanitized version of Twitter that employs the most mundane features of the platform while stifling the posting culture that made Twitter so unique. The users who make Twitter fun, and build the sense of community that defined the platform at its peak, will likely be flagged for violating one of Instagram’s archaic community guidelines if they bring the same energy to Threads.
As if I need even more reasons to avoid Threads...
Counterpoint: a lot of people on Reddit complain about “you’re just downvoting because you disagree with me” when they’re being downvoted for spreading misinformation, being unnecessarily hostile or condescending or holier-than-thou, posting blatant dogwhistles, or sealioning.
I’d rather see people in general take a step back and stop taking downvotes so personally. You will get downvoted sometimes. It’s not always an ideological attack.
Looks like you can only search for one at a time, and as far as I can tell it’s only indexing kbin.social, not any other kbin instances. Still, it’s a start.
