DarkThoughts,

While the article goes into great detail about what happened, I can't seem to see any info on why it happened? What's going on between the Meitei and the Kuki?

ramesdunc,

Here is a nice tool that shows 2 mono fonts and you pick the one you like best. Until you end up with a winner: https://www.codingfont.com/

(I use Brutalist Mono myself)

Imgur links suck

Most Fediverse software supports image uploads, so there's no reason to use Imgur for image hosting. Hell, even on my small single-user server (atomicpoet.org), image hosting is easy peasy. Not only is Imgur not needed, they're an annoyance for those of us who are used to seeing images natively on the Fediverse....

I use https://postimages.org/

It is very reliable and supports uploading images upto 24 mb in size and 10k x 10k pixels.

Withdrawing FROM Hugo Award Nominations — S.B. Divya (sbdivya.com)

A few weeks ago, I was very surprised to receive an email that my story, “Two Hands, Wrapped in Gold,” had been nominated for a Hugo Award for Best Novelette. As is customary, the awards team asked if I wished to accept the nomination or withdraw it from consideration. Unfortunately, I’ve decided to

This couldn’t have been easy, but I’m impressed by the author’s integrity.

TrenchcoatFullofBats,

You need 2 indexers (in case one goes down temporarily) and two providers with different backbones - one primary and one to backfill if all portions of the file you want aren’t available on your primary.

Here’s a good overview of Usenet backbones. For example, Newsdemon with Eweka is a decent combo.

This all works best with an *arr stack + SABnzbd. *arr apps will connect to the indexers so you can find stuff to download when you search for something - for example, Sonarr for TV shows.

When a file that meets your requirements is found, Sonarr will download the nzb file and put it in a directory that SAB watches. SAB then downloads the file and puts it in “completed” directory that Sonarr watches.

Sonarr then moves the file to that TV show’s directory, which your media player (like Jellyfin) watches, and then it shows up there for you to enjoy.

If you get everything dialed right, it works perfectly and is super reliable.

[Wristwatches] How a $260 plastic watch pissed off the entire watch community

Watch collectors are kind of an odd bunch. I’m talking about “dumb” watches specifically - watches that only tell time and don’t have any sort of smartphone connectivity or biometric tracking. Some of the fancier models might have a timer on them, but you’re certainly not going to be getting text notifications. Watches...

Kichae,

Since Threads isn't federating yet, there's no particular rush to announce a stance. Especially while the developer is still playing catch up following the user growth.

Browser Market Share Worldwide - June 2023

Chrome 62.55% (Chromium engine)
Safari 20.5% (Webkit engine)
Edge 5.28% (Chromium engine)
Opera 3.22% (Chromium engine)
Firefox 2.8% (Quantum Engine)
Samsung Internet 2.38% (Chromium engine)

While other browsers technically exist, it is foolish to think that web browsers are a thriving diverse ecosystem right now, when 74% of all web-browsing is done using a Chrome-based browser. With their influence, if Google decided to start forcing changes on how websites function on a technical level, they could absolutely do that with little to stop it;- what are websites going to do, alienate a supermajority of their users?- And that is why people are so worried about things like Threads, because once a single company has supermajority control of a market, they can use that control as a weapon to get what they want.

I say this as an avid Firefox user: Firefox is niche. And the only reason Safari has 20% is because it is integrated with apple products, if it weren't for that, Chrome and Chrome-reskins would effectively be the only option.

mindlessscrollingparrot,

Yes, the article headline is misleading - the trend that is reversed is the accelerating rate of deforestation, not the rate of deforestation itself.
