Unfortunately I think this is an uncommon situation with your sample size + mine. I flew two Southwest flights recently and neither of them were able to let 1.1.1.1/WARP through, at least for iOS. They were both different plane models.
Not everybody uses social media the same way and some people need instant exposure to the community to get a better start. It doesn't help that these types of posts just make people feel like they're stupid.
Having spent a lot of time on Mastodon... There are tons of people there talking about federated and self-hosted services, software freedom, censorship, encryption, tech regulation... A very narrow range of topics directly surrounding the fediverse get a lot of attention....
I don't think you can really stop these types of topics from getting popular, because it's the crowd that the Fediverse attracts unfortunately. I tried to refer friends but the Fediverse system is too unnecessary for their needs and I respect that. Unless there's some way to simplify the entire concept, or ways for newcomers to be easily onboarded, I fear all of this is going to fall into the same niche hole as the Linux community.
If the descentralization of social networks continue, we will have to prepare for the eventual rise of the instances wars, where people will start to fight about which instance is better and which one is weird to be in and so on, but that’s for the future of us all.
I can imagine other instances defederating from each other over minor or uncontrollable reasons. I'd hate to keep switching to new instances if that were to happen.
Agreed. There's a lot mixed messaging from the userbase where we're recommended to switch to Mastodon from Twitter but also respect that Mastodon is not supposed to be a Twitter replacement.
The protest has never ended. We have been trying to communicate with Reddit admins, who seemed at first to be willing to talk to us, but we are only getting the silent treatment and threats to reopen the subreddit.
While Sony is a company that will keep around features from the good old days, like SD Card slot and the Headphone Jack, they also keep around the 2, maybe 3 years of software updates promise and I don’t think that’s acceptable in 2023 especially with a 1400 USD phone they’re about to sell.
I went through my late teens as the initial smart phone boom was happening. I had a Motorola q that could get TV channels and had a keyboard. I had the enV that flipped open. And many androids/blackberries that I loved for their unique form factor and functionality....
Free In-flight WiFi and Internet (Tested: Southwest Airlines US)
Not your normal kind of piracy, I know, but thought some would be interested....
Is not that god damn hard. (lemmy.ml)
Can we please remember to talk about things on the fediverse besides the fediverse itself?

If Lemmy and Mastodon continues to get popular, we will eventually get Instance wars.

What are the best phones with headphone jacks?
At least for the next few years, I am pretty firm on needing a jack on my device....
What niche phone features would appeal to you?
