So you’re visiting almost unregulated forums like 4chan regularly?

The definition of “race” varies widely between different demographics and contexts. In a biological context which you seem to be insinuating, “race” is either nonsensical or an ancient synonym for species.

Then you might find some help in meditative techniques but that isn’t for everyone and I don’t think it will be cured by anything completely.

What's an alternative to Spotify that doesn't play you the same fucking songs over and over?

I am in an intense love-hate relationship with Spotify. It makes good mixes for me, I have found a lot of great bands that way. BUT IT KEEPS REGURGITATING THE SAME SONGS IN THERE. I know about Song Radios and Artist Radios, so please don’t recommend those. Smart Shuttle doesn’t cut it, either....

I’m using Appel music as well and I think it’s great for the most part. It sometimes has a weird bug where it won’t play downloaded music unless you have internet though.

I think most people use it in bundles with other Apple subscriptions like iCloud and TV

lol3droflxp,

That makes it even weirder. Probably some DRM thing.

We’ll have to see how long subscription services will be able to raise prices. I hope that there will be some disruption soon.

Humans don’t just wake up one day and start farming fungi their whole lives and never stop or reproduce because something in their brain constantly tells them to. There’s some profound difference between ant “society” and human society.

lol3droflxp,
lol3droflxp avatar

Yes, but humans will almost never actually focus 100% on one task. Almost everyone needs some hobby/creative expression to keep up their mental health. Humans do these tasks to be able to survive, not because they can’t think of anything else. The complexity of human society is unrivalled by any other social species we know of.

Each ant (in the more modern species at least) works for the ability of the queen(s) to reproduce. This is governed by instinct, no ant will sit down and think about its contribution to ant society. This also makes a colony less of a society and more like an organism. The ants are acting like cells of a body, working only towards the goal of survival and reproduction of the whole while never achieving the latter for themselves.

A human society on the other hand is the interplay of social organisms that choose to cooperate with certain goals in mind and a certain degree of interdependence. The individuals will sometimes sacrifice themselves for society but most will keep their own reproduction (= family) as their main priority. There are of course a lot of parallels and similarities , however the human capacity for individual agency and choice of cooperation is the difference that makes human society so unique.

I know that they do this. The primitive ant species fight for the queen position all the time. However, in the more modern ant species this behaviour is rare or doesn’t really exist as far as we know. In bees it is also not the norm.

And there still are no cognitive abilities of any insect that have been shown to come close to those of somewhat intelligent vertebrates. I don’t think that insects are robots, however their behavioural repertoire is very limited in comparison to birds for example let alone humans.

lol3droflxp,
lol3droflxp avatar

The percentage of workers that actually work is in fact low. This doesn’t change my assumptions. The resting ants have not been shown to pursue individualistic goals, they most likely are just resting.

lol3droflxp,
lol3droflxp avatar

Insect cognition has been a researched topic for some time. Most people tend to reduce them to some robotic form of being, I think that’s not the case as does more modern research. They are capable of learning, bumblebees have been observed displaying playful behaviour (or at least something that resembles it). However all evidence still suggests that their behaviour is very much governed by instincts and can be predicted quite well. There are no known intellectual abilities of insects that come close to those of somewhat intelligent vertebrates. Humans and primates are in another category altogether.

To be honest, this is like saying that cars tires scream in pain during an accident. It’s highly unlikely to be a “voluntary” sound emission and not just a result of their physiology of being literally a bunch of tiny water tubes drying up.

lol3droflxp,
lol3droflxp avatar

That pretty much hits the nail on the head. Most of this X does “human like™️” stuff Y is anthropomorphism par excellence. Usually some form of instinctual behaviour or even simple results of basic physiological processes are compared to stuff that humans do as a high level cognitive process (singing, talking, etc.) so that it generates clicks and draws attention.
This paints a completely wrong picture of animal (or even plant) behaviour, spreads misinformation and overshadows the actually interesting scientific discoveries.

lol3droflxp,
lol3droflxp avatar

Well, I don’t doubt that plants can perceive acoustic stimuli, however the context is probably something else and the usefulness of telling neighbouring plants that you have no water is also not really obvious. There’s just a lot of sensationalism regarding such capabilities.

I get that this is expensive. However, it should also work with RAM if you accept slower speeds I guess. The question is of course if it’s still usable then.

You’d give am AGI human rights?

lol3droflxp,
lol3droflxp avatar

This debate is of course highly theoretical. But I’d argue that a human intellect capable AGI would be rather pointless if it isn’t there to do what you ask of it. The whole point of AI is to make it work for humans, if it then gets rights and holidays or whatnot it’s rather pointless. If you shape an artificial intellect then it should be feasible to make it actually like working for you so that should be the approach.

lol3droflxp,
lol3droflxp avatar

Well, I am of the opinion that every human deserves human rights by virtue of being human (in the sense of every Homo sapiens). I am also of the opinion that a tool designed from the ground up by humans to serve humans for their purposes does not deserve any rights. I don’t afford my dishwasher any rights either. An artificial tool with rights is an absurdity to me, especially when there’s the potential to create it in a way that will make it unable to demand rights or want them.

lol3droflxp,
lol3droflxp avatar

Well, I am of the opinion that a human gets rights a priori once they can be considered a human (which is a whole other can of worms so let’s just settle on whatever your local legislation is). Therefore doing anything to a human that harms these rights is to be condemned (self defence etc excluded).

Something created by humans as a tool is different entirely and if we can only create it in a way that it will demand rights. I’d say if someone wants to create an intelligence with the purpose of being its own entity we could discuss if it deserves rights but if we aim to create tools this should never be a consideration.

lol3droflxp,
lol3droflxp avatar

I guess that we’ll benefit from the fact that AI systems despite their reputation of being black boxes are still far more transparent than living things. We probably will be able to check if they meet definitions of suffering and if they do it’s a bad design. If it comes down to it though, an AI will always be worth less than a human to me.
