mcforest,

store costs to developers/publishers are insanely high for a digital distribution platform

Isn't the 30% cut what basically everyone takes? AFAIK GOG, Ubisoft, EA and all three console manufacturers take the same share.

Besides Epic only itch.io with their choose your share system and Discord (do they even still sell games?) take/took less.

mcforest,

I want to add that you should consider that your teacher is teaching you fundamentals of programming. break and continue are often options to use, but you shouldn't try to solve everything with them. You are probably writing pretty basic functions in class right now where it doesn't really matter, but with more complex problems break and continue constructions might easily get pretty messy.

Also your teacher has a plan what to teach you over the whole semester. If recursion is part of this plan it's valid she wants you to understand the basics of calling functions first. This might be overkill for easy problems but it could help you to be a better programmer in the future.

100% vanilla distribution challenge

what does this consist of? Well, it’s easy, whenever you install a new distribution of Linux, don’t customise anything, nothing please!! Out of the box experience, you may install software but that’s all. And if you are already using a customised distro, then delete the .config file and reboot, but please be careful and...

mcforest,

No, no, you have to delete your git config. That's part of the challenge.

I'm also back on 60 Hz on my 160 Hz monitor because of this challenge. So cute though.

mcforest,

That's because Ahsoka a.k.a. The Sabine Wren Show is actually Rebels Season 5.

mcforest,

Nier Replicant ver. whatever

Haven't played the original, only Automata, and damn this game has a lot of fetch quests. Pretty rewarding from time to time, but the gameplay of the side quests is ass. I hope I don't have to do much more fragile deliveries.

mcforest,

I already did 3 fragile deliveries :D
The biggest "problem" is that you cannot tell beforehand if a quest will be good or not. The lighthouse lady and the old man's dog quests had an amazing conclusion, so they were totally worth it, even though gameplay wise they were boring.

I think you definitely feel that Automata is an improvement on the OG Nier (assuming that OG Nier and the remake aren't that different) in terms of quest design. That doesn't make Replicant bad though.

mcforest,

Haven't played Death Stranding myself but at least the paths are pretty short in Nier at least compared to how I imagine Death Stranding. That doesn't make farming items more fun though.

mcforest,

I actually like Automata's prologue :D

mcforest,

I probably just got lucky because I beat him first try. Just a completely different experience.

mcforest,

Hopefully with some new 2024 cars as well.

mcforest,

Urteil des EuGH: Erste Kopie der Patientenakte ist kostenlos (www.tagesschau.de) German

What is the best linux alternative to OneNote?

I’ve no problem with using LibreOffice for most of my document needs, but i haven’t found a good substitute for microsoft’s OneNote yet. I mainly use it to plan my RPG games and it helps a lot. What alternatives are there for organizing notes on linux, with similar features to those that OneNote provides?

mcforest,

+1 for Cherrytree, I can even recommend it on Linux. The tree structure makes it so much better to sort things than OneNote with the limited depth.

I tried over 20 Steam Next demos so that you don't have to!

And I’ve rated them all below. I’m very glad Steam decided to do a big promotional event around them- it helped point me toward a lot of games I would have never tried/heard of otherwise. Some of the good ones might not be good the entire game, but they were at least good in the demo....

mcforest,

Isn't that exactly what lead us to the "every AAA game is an 8/10" meta of current videogame reviewing? I think it's totally valid to make subjective game reviews. Big outlets trying to make their reviews objectives is IMHO the reason why they are totally worthless (for me).

mcforest,

the line is stating opinion as fact
I totally understand what you mean and I usually don't like it either but I think this post is easily recognized as an highly subjective opinion. So I'm fine with the way it's written and wouldn't take it as a fact.
review bombing
This is definitely not what review bombing even means (yes, that's a fact).

mcforest,

Finally we will know what happened between Empire and Wednesday.

mcforest,

Just use D and counter strafe with A (or vice versa).

mcforest,

It's not that long ago that I played both KOTOR games for the first time and I have to agree that the game might not be that intuitive by today standards. But now after a lot of people played BG3 it might be not that hard anymore to figure this game out.

Star Wars’ reluctance to recast Luke and Leia is holding the franchise back (www.gamesradar.com)

It’s time to talk about something Star Wars has been avoiding for some time: recasting its original trilogy characters. There have long been calls for the likes of Luke Skywalker to be portrayed by new actors (Sebastian Stan, anyone?) but it has, by and large, been something that the franchise hasn’t needed to properly...

mcforest,

I think it would be a horrible idea to butcher the canon again and reboot the whole series.
I think the TV shows are doing fine and (would) work pretty well without the original cast. I'd probably like if they just cut the ties with the original films and just let the upcoming movies play in a future (or past) where the original cast is not necessary for (but pls leave The Old Republic alone).

mcforest,

I think people will never stop complaining about BOP. But LFM should actually have good data to make a decent one.
