Who is sneaking fentanyl across the southern border? Hint: it's not the migrants (www.npr.org)

Prosecutors and defense lawyers say Haley’s story is typical; the vast majority of illicit fentanyl — close to 90% — is seized at official border crossings. Immigration authorities say nearly all of that is smuggled by people who are legally authorized to cross the border, and more than half by U.S. citizens like Haley....

The article touches on that. The 90% number has an accompanying chart with seizures by year in pounds from both ports of entry and also between the ports, citing U.S. Customs and Border Protection drug seizure statistics. So, that's 90% of total fentanyl seized, not 90% of total fentanyl attempted.

The article later cites a Homeland Security testimony to the U.S. House of Representatives that states only an estimated 25% of attempted fentanyl is seized.

many of us probably would have been convinced to do so

No one is being convinced of anything. People are being enabled to live as their true selves.

I also think it’s a tool we reach for much more often than is necessary.

There is no data to back this up, nor is there any reason to think it's true. Trans people, even just considering the youngest generation, remain a very small percentage of the general population.

Giving gender affirming care to all people with gender or body dysphoria is like giving high dose Adderall to all people who have trouble paying attention in history class. It’s the nuclear option, and you’re using it on someone who may not even have adhd, or may not require such a strong intervention.

Any medical treatment should not be prescribed without a doctor's due consideration. Gender affirming care, at any age, is no different. There is not a nuclear option available or used for minors expressing they want gender affirming care.

I know everyone hates this word, but starting with more conservative treatments first is the norm throughout healthcare for exactly this reason. We’ve made an exception for transgender people for political reasons, not scientific ones.

No such exception has been made, certainly not for trans kids.

So, that's why the comment has some downvotes. And probably should have more. The comment isn't a differing opinion; it's factually incorrect.

Poll results ain't looking so hot for continuing the blackout.

How do you feel about people upvoting their own posts?

I always thought it was a pretty smart idea on Reddit's side to have the posts and comments be automatically upvoted by their author, saving them the tough choice between playing fair or boosting their initial reach a little; and if you had particularly low self-esteem, this enabled you to reduce your own points by not one, but...

Self upvotes feel fine yet self boosts feel excessive to me, but I don't have an actual reason for thinking that.

On a kinda related note, is there a way for the comment box to not default to including OP and any user in the comment chain you're replying to? I thought at first it was the way to do things here, but most comments I see don't have those tags included. Are y'all deleting the tags manually every time? Or is there a setting to change for tags or no tags?

Found it, thank you!

My biggest problem with kbin

The biggest problem with kbin is honestly quite simple, but I don't people is talking about is the fact that finding the magazines that I'm subscribed to is in Settings > Subscribed, on Reddit, it's literally in the top bar, I don't get why it's buried in settings. Another thing is why is my home page full of posts from...

@Timwi Do you mean like see an r/All type page, without magazines that you have blocked? Or you want the r/All type page to not have the magazines that you're subscribed to?

@AlteredStateBlob When you go to settings, it should take you straight to General -> Appearance. Directly under "Appearance" you should see a drop down that's probably set to "All" at the moment. You can change the drop down to Subscriptions, Favourites, or Moderated. If you select Subscriptions, then clicking on the top left kbin icon on desktop should take you to https://kbin.social/sub.

On mobile, however, I still have the problem where the top left kbin icon only opens the hamburger menu, and the home button I see from there takes me to kbin.social. I feel like that worked as expected above when I first joined? But honestly not sure if that's a bug or a feature.

I just went to the boosts section on my profile and clicked on the one boost again. It did decrement the boost count, but it still shows up under boosts on my profile. Not sure if it just takes time to update?
