All of these "we should stop trying to be Reddit and just be kbin and stop talking about Reddit" posts reminds me of all of the "we should stop trying to be Twitter and just be Mastodon and stop talking about Twitter" posts a few months ago.
With Mullvad disabling port forwarding and the general problematic VPN services it was super helpful to rely on some information about VPNs on reddit to discovered services like Mullvad. Now it seems to be down to ProtonVPN, AirVPN and IVPN. But that information is not to be found here so far....
So basically, shit reasoning. They defederated because something might happen. A lot of things might happen. That's no reason to not do things in life.
Kbin is a weird implementation. I think anything you post here is accessible by someone with a Mastodon account, but it wouldn’t show up for them the way we see it here. It would just look like random posts like in Twitter. I haven’t used kbin enough to even try, but theoretically you could subscribe to a Mastodon user and see their posts from here. Probably in the microblog tab.
Other instances can see you too. And other Fediverse based platforms. This thread is trending on kbin.social for example, which is where I’m posting from.
I've finally finished my exams, and now finnaly have some time to play. I was wondering what games I should try out? I usually end up playing for 30 minutes before losing my attention span, so I'm looking for a very immersive and simple to get into game. Anybody got any suggestions?
I’m surprised it hasn’t been mentioned yet but Diablo IV is immersive. You can tackle the main story early on and it doesn’t require grind to progress if you’re doing quests and dungeons. The quests are involved stories, for the most part, rather than fetch quests. There are voice overs, excellent graphics, detailed maps, and random NPCs with Lore to share.
Reddit went through some issues for many on Monday, with the outage happening the same day as thousands of subreddits going dark to protest the site’s new API pricing terms....
I'm glad to see it happen. Twitter was awesome back in the late 2000s, but it really turned into something unhealthy and dangerous. I feel like the distributed nature of the Fediverse is a better way to prevent information manipulation and keep conversations real.
Out riding today and caught this awesome view from the East River Promenade

A lot subreddits end their blackout tomorrow. Will you go back to Reddit, or continue with kbin and the Fediverse?
I haven't used Reddit at all since the blackout began. Even if they change course, the Fediverse is growing on me, and I think I'll stay here....
I'd love a community vibe check. What is everybody into? Subgenres/Bands/Favorite albums... let's talk about what we like.

People from Reddit or redditors, people from Boston are Bostonians, people from Canada are Canadian. What should the people of this site use for a demonym?
I've seen keebinetters, but that feels like trying to say Massachusettsian instead of Bay Stater....
