People from Reddit or redditors, people from Boston are Bostonians, people from Canada are Canadian. What should the people of this site use for a demonym?
I've seen keebinetters, but that feels like trying to say Massachusettsian instead of Bay Stater.
Kay-Binner seems like the most simple and inclusive, but that depends on the fact that you pronounce kbin Kay-bin
Maybe something representing the federated nature? Like Fedizen maybe?
I like the Beans in general for the Fediverse or whatever the union is here. Kbeans for Kbin, Lbeans for Lemmy, etc. Like a way we can be all united under a Bean Banner while still being unique beans at the same time.
I think "Kbinners" is the best option because it keeps the ambiguity on how you pronounce it, is easy to type and remember, and will be easy for newcomers to understand as well.
Kbinners works well, although I can't help but pronounce it as "combiners"... which maybe could actually fit the theme of combining different communities/topics, or links from different places in the fediverse/internet, within the platform?
I would go for Binners. Rolls off the tongue a bit more nicely. And somehow makes me think of loot diggin' which is an apt analogy to riffling through threads and posts.
A great many of the people you'll interact with once the traffic issues subside and federation is working smoothly won't be on kbin.social, and may not even be using kbin-or lemmy-based websites.
The Fediverse is much bigger than one website, or one piece of server software. This is a united federation of social media websites.
So, I propose we all be collectively called Red Shirts.
You raise a good point. I think a more inclusive term might be better in the beginning. It could help people understand the whole concept a little, too.
When I explained the concept to my mom today, she said, "Oh, sounds kind of like Star Trek."
They've started to, and I like the analogy of lemmings being seen as a horde out of control running off a cliff, but in actuality it was because they were forced to do it by an entity to give a false message. Replace Disney with Reddit execs in the example.
