Is there a definitive list of defederated instances? Since this would be a dynamic list I would hope each instance has this linked on the main page, (ideally with justification on who the said instance was defedarated and why).
I sort by all and new and have seen a fair amount of posts from bots bringing over content from Reddit. A lot of it doesn’t have much if any engagement on here and as far as I can tell even if there was it wouldn’t cross back and forth between the two platforms....
People post form Reddit, YouTube, Twitter, Software release... Reddit is no different taking from other sites. If it's automated or not matters, (IMHO). More content at this point is good. Taking from Reddit, (or any other sources), shouldn't matter. Ideally, the honorable thing to do is give the proper reference to your source, (or even better, from Reddit's source).
Outside my depth but I'll give it a stab. Identify what data is important, (is the full 42Tb needed?). Can the data be split into easier to handle chunks?
If it is, then I personally do an initial sneakernet to get the fist set of data over. Then mirror different on a regular basis.
One way to validate this is go to a lemmy community, (asklemmy@lemmy.ml for example). Currently I see a 5h gap where the most recent on from Jerboa Iis 20min ago.
