i took @minnieo's page navigation userstyle and converted it to a more generic userscript which should work with any kbin theme (and not just dark -- no need to modify any script vars)....
I was looking at reddit today, and the front-page felt like nothing happened. I scrolled and scrolled and scrolled and clicked into comments. Everything is popping off buzzing with activity. All the subreddits I was subscribed to that went dark are now back up and business as usual....
i would not have found this federated alternative if not for the protest.
i, for one, am glad to not have to put up with the ever increasing ads, the constant "install reddit app" popup, the crappy "new" interface (vs the "old".. which i continued to use)...
Remains to be seen how the post June 30 impact to mobile apps and the mod community shapes up. But the drive to further monetize the platform for the IPO is the writing on the wall afaiac.
Yes, the federated user base is still in its infancy.. but quality over quantity :)
Not sure how easy this would be, but perhaps change this to a js userscript and..
expanded it to use the theme vars to set the highlighting (so it can work with both dark and light themes).
add to GreasyFork and name script accordingly e.g. "Kbin Better Page Navigation.js"
(i am admittedly not very knowledgeable when it comes to userstyles vs userscripts).
EDIT:
i went ahead and created a "userscript" based on your "userstyle" which uses the kbin's theme vars to work with whatever theme is in use (only tested with the 5 current kbin color themes).
The bad, although expected news is that according to Similarweb via Gizmodo Reddit traffic is back to pre-protest levels. The caveat is that some of the traffic might still indicate protests, (i.e. John Oliver pics). Most interesting:...
Interesting.. not surprising the majority don't care. (Admittedly, i only put up with reddit until now because i wasn't aware of the alternatives which the latest foofaraw revealed).
i've fully migrated to kbin (replaced my reddit feeds with kbin rss feeds into miniflux for a completely transparent migration.. like nothing ever happened, except the noise went down along with toxicity and no intrusive ads).
Glad to be here with people who care about their discussion platform.
kbin magazines can be retrieved as an rss feed -- at the bottom of the magazine's web page is the recognizable "rss icon" which contains the url of the rss feed (the icon near the top for lemmy community web pages). i use these rss urls with my miniflux aggregator to group kbin/lemmy magazines/communities into more digestible subject categories -- very useful during this early period when there are multiple magazines for the same topic.
As nice as the kbin webpage looks, even tweaked with the appropriate userscripts, i prefer browsing topics with the minimalistic category oriented UI of miniflux (which works both on the desktop and the mobile device).

Did avatars get broken with the last update?
i noticed my previous avatar now replaced with the text " avatar"....

Reddit feels like it's gone back to 100% normalcy already. Was the protest a failure? (beehaw.org)

Kbin Better Page Navigation. It makes the navigation page numbers much easier to read. (userstyles.world)
BEFORE AND AFTER...
Reddit traffic returning normal, sort of. (gizmodo.com)
