Can you describe to me how after the plugin is active, it should work for a Firefox user with a Kbin account browsing a Lemmy site? Is there any visual difference after the plugin is working? Or just links now go to your local Kbin server?
Will almost certainly treat it like any other big federation server. Trust, but if it proves to be unmoderated, harassing and violating my servers TOS repeatedly despite reporting from us on those issues, then would Fediblock. But that is a nuclear option and always a last resort to protect my folks.
I could be very wrong, but FediDB is the source of this bot, and the developer there thinks that the Stats number at the footer of Kbin includes remote followers from the Fediverse, but the number he gets from the API counts local users. Would love someone who knows the tech of how Kbin defines stats on the lower footer to confirm.
One thing I have no personal knowledge of, but I have seen complaints online about the developers of Lemmy and the two servers they host, lemmy.ml ...https://mstdn.social/@feditips/106835057054633379
From my Mastodon server I briefly had both an OpenCollective and a Patreon, and users there clearly wanted to use the Patreon more. I'd suggest setting up both.
In the mastodon space, folks are figuring out this exact same issue. For that space my team wrote about 100 lines of javascript code that made it far better. If you click on a remote link, it asks you ONCE what your home server is. And after that the JS automatically writes all URL's to funnel you back to your home server to interact with them. Can share that if folks want maybe it could be adapted.
