While I get where you're coming from, I think there's another way to look at the comment:
People talk about environmental issues as protecting the planet and that gets a lot of people motivated to make changes, but for everyone else, there's just no urgency or attachment in that argument. People look at it as if killing the planet will mean we have different landscapes, certain animals stop existing, etc. There's this idea that humans will be fine, but it's all of that mother earth nonsense that's at stake, and some people just don't give a crap about that stuff.
We can be more blunt and selfish about things and get people to look at it instead as protecting themselves. Saving the whales doesn't motivate you? Fine. How about saving every human on the planet from famine? Because that's what we're really talking about here. You don't have to be a tree hugging hippy that loves mother earth to want to do something about this. Be a self important prick that only cares about themselves for all anyone cares - you have a personal stake in doing something about this too because ultimately we're saving ourselves, not some concept of "mother earth".
The point of comments like that aren't to say "it is what it is" and dismiss the problem, but rather to re-frame it to not be a touchy-feely "save the penguins" hippy concept that only resonates with a subset of individuals and instead bring it to the simple and universal matter of preservation of the species that will resonate with nearly all people. You don't have to want to "Save the Planet" to want to "Save Yourself"
That's also very different from some of the scenarios you shared, but putting climate issues on that extinction event level is exactly the point. If we knew an asteroid was coming at us and would impact, ending ending human life, we'd be SUPER motivated to fix that. Nations would spend unlimited money funding research and construction of solutions and it would start immediately with universal support. If people saw environmental issues as a similar extinction level catastrophe, maybe that would change.
Exactly - In Trump's mind, that means Powell owes him and should only be making moves that help Trump get re-elected. The fact that it is or isn't the right move is of no consequence. He expects loyalty above all else.
Hi there, simply looking for alternatives to Canva. I use this to make quick and easy presentations for Uni. But would like to find opensource alternatives. I am aware of the Libre and OpenOffice Suites ofc, but are there any other ones more similar to Canva?...
If you are either already experienced with some basic html and javascript or willing to learn some, reveal.js is my goto for things outside of work (really need to stick to the presentation file/application that is standard at the company in those settings). The creator also has slides.com, but you'll have to pay to get much use out of it (free edition limits to 5 presentations and they are all publicly viewable/searchable and can have ads added to them).
Disgusted, yes, but not surprised. All the more so, though, whether or not the thing the article is claiming happened actually happened IS important. We can't just say "that's the sort of thing I think they would have done, so they probably did it" and move on. That's the kind of circular logic that gets us into a place where people honestly believe that significant portions of their government are full of literal Satan worshipers who drink the blood of children.

Exactly this. There's been an obsession with tech laypeople execs to put blockchain tech into anything because it's what they perceive to be the cool hip thing to do, but it's a just tool with certain benefits and should only be added if and when it makes sense.
What could you do with a blockchain in a video game? Well, you could make in game assets into tokens that can be traded outside of the game, creating a secondary market for things that is entirely outside of the game publishers control. Why would you want to do that, though? It might be attractive for MMO gold farmer types, but the MMO game makers themselves are going to want to run in the opposite direction from such a thing. Maybe an Steam achievement trading card scheme? Again, why would anyone do that, though, when the system Steam uses works just fine and there's no risk of things getting out of control as Valve has full control over the marketplace.
Honestly, I struggle to think of a single other real use. That doesn't mean that there's no use for it, but it's definitely not something that should just be crammed into any product, let alone video games.
Tl;dr; expansion pretty much change whole game, reworks core game mechanics and adds whole new district. Plus Idris Elba and more of Keanu with expansion having almost as much lines as core game.
And they do - the expansion is the expanded content. The rework is a patch that launches at the same time that goes out to everyone with and without the expansion. This is similar to how CDPR did The Witcher 3 expansions.
It would work, but still be wrong. I'm in EDT and knew it was 1:30pm my time, and just completely fumbled the timezone conversion going in the wrong direction. My fault entirely. I came back looking for this comment because I was reading about the AMA in a news article and saw the times listed there and suddenly realized that I said the completely wrong thing here.
Sadly, it was worse than just backwards - 1:30 EDT was right, but I converted 3 timezones in the wrong direction for PDT, which should have said 10:30am.
