No, I don't care. This book was written a LONG time ago by idiot sheep-fuckers who didn't know where the sun went at night. The fact that you use it as your moral compass should qualify as a mental disorder, honestly. Also, what does the bible say about shellfish? What does it say about slaves? Why do you get to pick and choose what parts of the bible are important and make FUCKIN' LAWS that affect rational humans? The absolute narcissism on you people. 🙄
@patrickhadfield I think that, (thanks to Terry Pratchett) the expressions you are looking for are "Oh! Random fluctuations in the space/time continuum!" and "Aargh! Primitive and outmoded concept on a crutch.".
I often feel like the odd one out, believing in something I call God, among secular technologists. I see most #atheism as a rejection of modern dualistic Christian culture. Fine: I've literally no ties to Christianity. Neither am I New Age, though I do think they are a bit closer to the Truth in referring to God as The Universe. Doesn't matter exactly what you call It. Mystics of all origins in all geographies will tell you the limits of names.
What I believe in is the limit of knowledge. I believe in Mystery. I believe in cognitive psychology: that our brains can only take us so far. If I can understand the limits of the machinery of understanding, I can get a glimpse of the scale of all that I can never begin to understand. What is left is: to simply continue to be a part of it all, and with respect to our oneness, be as healthy as we can. #MentalHealthAwarenessMonth
Rep. Jamie Raskin, co-chair of the Congressional Freethought Caucus, has once again proposed a National Day of Reason resolution as a counter to the National Day of Prayer. The resolution celebrates Saturday, May 4, 2024, as a National Day of Reason and urges Americans to focus on the importance of reason, critical thought, the scientific method and free inquiry to resolve problems rather than turning to religion.
(The House will not approve this, but let's do it anyway) #FFRF#atheism
I can't think of many things more counterproductive than #prayer. It's even worse than people deciding to do nothing because at least the clear display of apathy towards an issue could influence people who do care to take action, but if everyone is convinced that prayer works (which it doesn't) then what motivation would they have to do anything themselves if they believe they can solve their problems through magical incantations? #atheism#atheist#Christianity#Islam#Hinduism#Judaism
@linuxgal I had an idea for a short story where Jesus comes back after his crucifixion and goes on a rampage in Jerusalem, killing all the people he was brought before and abused by during his passion in an over the top bloodbath...
People who are a part of cults, like the Jehovah's Witnesses, are not necessarily stupid, they're just human, and as such are emotional creatures who are subject to emotional manipulation, like the kinds discussed in this video. #atheism#atheist#christianity#religion#skepticism
@Radical_EgoCom oh lol is today atheist day? I used to be an active member of a church but packed it in once I moved away from home because my community wasn't there any more and I never truly believed...
... anyway literally today we had a local pastor over for coffee and biscuits (mainly because his kid is friends with ours) hahahaha, just perfect.
