This is a friendly warning and reminder that if you had started looking on ways to move away from #Microsoft and/or #Adobe for their latest shenanigans, do NOT stop now. Make the effort to move away NOW if at all possible even if they pretend to have backtracked. Because WHEN (not IF, but WHEN) they'll pull the same shit again, it will be HARDER, not EASIER, to get out of their prison.
Damnit, I wanted to install @eniko's #KitsuneTails demo on my #SteamDeck but it took so long to install all updates that my kids came back from dance lesson.
I guess it'll be for another time.
Also, I found my SteamDeck battery completely drained, again, after leaving it OFF for a long time. Honestly don't like this.
OK, kids are in bed, time to try out @eniko's gay shork Super Mario Clone.
(NB: waited for the kids to go to bed because I don't want them to know I have a SteamDeck, not because I don't want them to know that gay shork super mario clones exist.)
Oof, today I’m getting spam from fake HR departments announcing layoffs and “click to see layoff terms”. Obviously terribly bad taste but I guess they’re just riding the trend and hoping to cash in on people's panic clicks😔
@sinbad oh wow. Of course, because exploiting the confusion of someone under duress, and con them out of their savings just as they're losing their job is the most capitalistic thing they could think of.
There are features, such as the ability to delay patch installation, that at least at some point Microsoft enabled for enterprise versions of Windows but not for consumers. I wonder if they’ll do the same for Recall. (As noted by others, Recall is a gift to hackers and opposing counsel, which means that any decent-sized enterprise will disable it or not run Windows. But consumers? Most won’t know and/or will think themselves safe and won’t care, and can’t switch to Linux or MacOS.)
@SteveBellovin the problem with that is that anything shared with a computer with Recall is essentially insecure, so even enterprises that disable it will be at risk with any current that doesn't
@batichi sure, but that would make it extremely expensive, and why would you that when for the same price you're probably getting flight or even teleportation?
Update on the #NodeCore#translation situation. I've decided to take the plunge and get “creative” for Italian, fishing from ancient Greek for the names I was having troubles with. One of the problem is that some of the names actually exist in Italian, although with slightly different meanings.
Here's the situation as of now, with comments. The translations are still open for debate, so if anyone has comments or suggestions, I'm open.
One of the stupidest takes of #libertoloids (right-wing libertarians) is that you don't need laws or enforcement, that the only thing you need is a judge to resolve conflicts.
I never bothered to reply to them on #Twitter how idiotic this take was, for very two simple reasons:
the judge has no executive power, so whatever their ruling is, it's ineffective if there's no executive power to enforce it.
judges are corruptible.
Kind of regret not pointing 2. out, given the #SCOTUS sitch.
