I still receive the occasional Crypto email from the time I was interested in that a couple years ago, and really the only reason I haven't unsubscribed is because it is midly entertaining. These people will see signals in EVERYTHING indicating whatever coin might reach never-seen-before heights, only to then be proven completely wrong by some other random signal a few days later, from an entirely different source. Speculating is something I can get behind up to a point but this isn't even that, it's almost entirely guesswork, it almost reminds me of how binary options trading used to work, just on a larger scale.

" Big whale Danny says his grandma wore a pink dress to work today. This would be a bullish sign, because the last time his grandma wore that dress was in 2021 when Bitcoin flew through the roof" ... "It appears that a particularly brightly-colored duck flying over Montana today caused a bunch of people to sell, lowering Bitcoin by 5%. What? ...grandma? Forget about grandma man! Stick with it, we're talking ducks now!"

Does anyone know a way to get the URL of an image that is part of a link? Normally you can right-click the image and choose "copy image link", but when the image is part of a link, the right-click options all pertain to the link instead. i'm trying to use GPT to describe product images and I'm having to go into the dev console and dig around at level 20 to find the src. Surely there is a better way. I'm usually using Firefox, but any browser will do, really.

@simon assuming nvda+k will also grab the link rather than the image?

@sarajw @a11yclub not super close, I'm an hour out by train which is also why that a11yclub is a bit tricky for me to make given I have no idea how close they would be to public transport things :)

zersiax,
@zersiax@cupoftea.social avatar

@sarajw @a11yclub basically I'm in Arnhem, which is a direct train from amsterdam central, so if you wanted to grab coffee after one of the days and meet me there I'd be down, I can probably get out of work long enough for that. Moving back and forth with murrican working times would be trickier :)

Any other let’s plays that also publish their work as a podcast so I don’t have to hack a method of turning YouTube channels into podcasts? I know about gorillas play through but I’m looking for others. I turn all YouTube channels into podcasts anyway to avoid the ads and other cruff, but anything on ?

zersiax,
@zersiax@cupoftea.social avatar

@weirdwriter I think that is very rare, primarily because podcasts more often than not are really just audio. I know there's video podcasts but more often than not they appear on Youtube because thats where the people are, and you end up where you started. Podcast lets plays feels like a blind thing first and foremost; gorillas is in that sense the exception to the rule in that they I believe actually nuked the majority of their Youtube content. plus, RSS means no sweet sweet ad revenue which you yourself already said you're depriving youtube creators of, so yeah ...I feel thats a bit of a niche you're targeting. Really curious if there's more creators that do this though

@weirdwriter this might be of use https://github.com/i3arnon/YouCast. Not sure how up-to-date it is

I've just come across a Raycon earbuds "review" in quotes claiming that they're the best earbuds for vi people, and of course the video is sponsored by Raycon. So no, I bet they're not. It'll be just 99% copy he's been told to say to get that sweet YouTube money.

Why does VoiceOver think that ♡, is a Korean character? It's a heart.

zersiax,
@zersiax@cupoftea.social avatar

@KaraLG84 from what I can see its some kind of heart character reject from 1993 that really only works well on very few platforms, primarily Windows. Still wouldn't know why VO decides its Korean of all things but yeah ... its a random unicode character, not an actual emoji

FINALLY got my hands on a Windows machine at work to install and use JAWS and NVDA properly for testing, instead of doing it on a virtual machine inside my work Mac.

Gosh they're both so chatty on first start... For good reason, I know. NVDA was MUCH faster an install too.

zersiax,
@zersiax@cupoftea.social avatar

@sarajw lol does JAWS still have the prerecorded instructions and clicky noises? and yes, NVDA's pretty zippy and will talk using WIndows default voices, with eSPeak as a backup should you need/prefer that

Dear community, would you mind a question?

For a long while I had an ASCII-art hacker glider emblem in my profile bio. It was this:

. ۬. :

At some point I realized this might be a problem for people using screen readers. So I removed it from my bio.

I am still somewhat fond if it though, and wonder if maybe it wasn't in fact that big of a deal?

And more generally, what do you think of small ASCII-art bits like this? Are they extremely distracting? Are they acceptable?

Thank you!

zersiax,
@zersiax@cupoftea.social avatar

@rysiek for one this is really small, which I'd say makes it a very small problem, if that. Some of those characters are also unicode symbols which some voices don't even bother pronouncing. I'd honestly say its fine

For shits and giggles I thought I'd see if Be My AI could tell me the layout of a keyboard I was looking at. I asked it if the alt key was directly to the right of the Windows key. It said no, the key directly to the right of the Windows key is the Caps lock key.
So no, it can't.

zersiax,
@zersiax@cupoftea.social avatar

@KaraLG84 yeah one thing it is still pretty bad at is locating things within other things specifically. thats why I'm a little cautious when people think they'll be able to use , say, gpt4-v for game navigation or even real life navigation once the video interpreting bit comes out. I doubt that will actually work all that well :)

zersiax,
@zersiax@cupoftea.social avatar

@jcsteh @KaraLG84 seen that. I was trying to center an image in OBS and even with the size guides telling it how many pixels it is away from all sides it still finds that a very difficult task :)

Voice Vista’s breadcrumb feature is honestly amazing. Went for a 3 hour ish walk through forest and fields and there was no issue at all, even when mobile data cut out. Accuracy was always good, it didn’t lead me off my path once, it was so worth it and I’m gonna be doing this again. A lot. This is incredible stuff. I feel lucky that my brother is the kind of person who’ll happily set up breadcrumb trails for me. I stopped a few times to check where I was, and even though there were no points of interest or other markers around, and very limited connectivity, the beacons never stopped working. Seriously I’m very impressed. This is just really very good. The main thing I wish for is having a more dynamic breadcrumb system where you can link beacons together so that it can use them to calculate paths from A to B that haven’t specifically been set manually, but even in it’s current state I’m really happy with it.

zersiax,
@zersiax@cupoftea.social avatar

@talon hey curious, did you need to hold your phone in your hand for this to work well? Like ...How's the directional calibration do from a pocket? I'm going to have to do start walking a dog with a cane so my hands will be full and this sounds kinda useful if applicable :)
