New Kitten update!

Mostly housekeeping:

ā€¢ Runtime is now Node 22 (22.1.0 as 22.2.0 has a bug that can crash on deprecation warnings). This might be a breaking change for your code (e.g., importā€¦assert is now importā€¦with, etc.) Remember, Kitten is pre-release/not API-versioned yet.

ā€¢ Applied all semver-compatible dependency version upgrades.

ā€¢ Fixed tests & coverage. Tests are still woefully inadequate but will improve.

Thereā€™s a difference between being useful and being a usefool.

A usefool is someone who launders their legitimacy to benefit corporate interests for short-term gain. They do so even if, ultimately, itā€™s against their own interests and those of others in the longer term. (1/3)

Oftentimes, the usefool doesnā€™t think the longer-term ramifications apply to them as they feel sheltered by their perceived privilege. However, not being among the predator class that own and run corporations, they mistake the scraps occasionally thrown to them as a sign that theyā€™ll be protected from ever becoming prey themselves. Sadly, some find out the hard way that the only people not prey in a system run by predators are the predators themselves. (2/3)

I love how folks still think people farmers like Google have a trust problem.

In 2024!

They donā€™t have a trust problem.

They are untrustworthy.

And theyā€™ve always been untrustworthy. Itā€™s just that your friends happen to work there and your agency gets scraps of work from them sometimes and maybe they sponsor events you speak at that youā€™re even still questioning this. And, by doing so ā€“ still, even today ā€“ helping legitimise them.

If your justification for the genocide of the Palestinian people is that what Israelā€™s doing is legal, may I remind you the Holocaust was legal too. Hitler was acting entirely within the laws of Nazi Germany while committing the genocide of the Jewish (and Roma, and gay, and disabled, ā€¦) people.

Legal does not mean moral, just, or right.

If something is legal but unjust, it is your moral duty to break the law.

No social progress has ever come about without moral people breaking unjust laws.

Just installing Fedora Silverblue and realised that if you boot into the USB disk in legacy mode, it does a legacy install. If you boot into it in UEFI, it does a UEFI install.

Wish this was made clear in the interface and you could actually choose what you wanted. I mean, I really think UEFI should be the default no matter what these days with the option to change it if you really want to, no?

@Orca My experience: BIOS allows both legacy boot and UEFI. BIOS instructions (incorrectly) state that legacy boot must be turned on to boot from USB. When legacy boot is on the USB stick is shown under both legacy and UEFI sections. The latter, for me, was less apparent so I chose the first option by mistake. Anyway, this is why the first option for folks switching to Linux should be to buy a PC with it preinstalled. Installing an OS will always be an enthusiasts game.

Failing is how you learn to fucking succeed.

Failure doesn't mean you give up.

Failure means you study WHY you failed and see if you can change anything to get a different outcome.

I'm very quick to point out a doomed tactic, but that doesn't always mean the goal is unattainable.
