Have you all considered just simply creating your own instance? It might cost money (a few bucks a month), but it would give people a more centralized location of viewing these communities. Those who purely browse those communities solely would also then have a home instance.
Don’t get me wrong, I love Lemmy.world, I just think the Apple footprint is large enough that it could benefit from its own home!
You could do that as well. I understand how #lemmy works. I just mean these specific communities really would benefit from taking advantage of the decentralized nature of the Fediverse. Everyone keeps building communities on the same 3-4 instances and those instances are struggling to keep up with performance and moderation. Someone should work to focus the entire #apple community on their own “Apple content” instance.
@kylewritescode Trying to connect to another instance’s community is so frustrating for me when using Lemmy (and Mastodon). It’s annoying having to replace the original instance name and then append it to the end and hoping that the whole process will work.
@kylewritescode Thanks. In order for me to subscribe to them I will still have to do the URL edit shenanigans. Maybe I’ll just make multiple accounts to get around having to do all that.
I know that people are not looking forward to Meta getting involved with the Fediverse, but I hope their talented developers can get involved in making cross-instance interoperability intuitive.
@kylewritescode Yes, I have an account on Beehaw.org, a Lemmy instance, but searching is fairly busted on it for me. I have very limited success in searching for instances outside of those with which it has federated. https://beehaw.org/instances
@dhepworth Without going into too much detail, they defederated from us without notice. We had been in talks with them about some other stuff and them just bam.
@kylewritescode I think the answer to my problems might be making multiple accounts to manage the various instances that block each other. I’ve been testing out the iOS Lemmy app called #Mlem and it has multi-account support.
