Looking in the SE github org, there's also their Design System, and it is MIT-licensed. https://github.com/StackExchange/Stacks That can be a) giving a good headstart in designing an alternative, and b) depending on how it is exactly licensed, be great to "fork" the brand assets (if they are also just MIT, they maybe aren't protected as they usually are).
