I'm still trying to find a good Mastodon front end or app. I tried Tuba, but I don't care for it. I'm using Elk right now, and I'm mixed on it. May end up making that my first project. I'm rusty af on JS and I know no Ruby at all. My HTML and CSS is better than it was, but still rusty af.

jych,

@thelinuxcast I'm self-hosting a Soapbox instance. Really nice UI. https://github.com/soapbox-pub/soapbox

@jych That looks somewhat interesting. Not sure if I want to host my own though. I see there is one public instance I can use. I'll give that a try. Is it hard to set up? i.e. is it easy for a dummy?

@thelinuxcast front end on PC? Or are you looking at mobile?

thelinuxcast,
@thelinuxcast@fosstodon.org avatar

@JLW_the_Jobber PC. I'm trying Tokodon, we'll see if I like it. Was hoping for a web app tbh, similar to elk or mastodeck.

@thelinuxcast Tokodon maybe ?

UltimusShadow,

@thelinuxcast I've heard a lot of good things about Mastodon Bird UI. https://indieweb.social uses it, Twitter replica.

@thelinuxcast I recently switched to @phanpy on mobile web (haven't tried on desktop) and really like it. It describes itself as "opinionated" so some of the interface changes may not be for you and are not customizable, but for me it strikes the right balance.

emergent,

@thelinuxcast I'm enjoying , especially its zen mode. My only complaint would be that zen mode also hides the favorite button.

Why are you mixed on it?

cybersandwich,

@thelinuxcast I'm using moshidon. It seems pretty good. I haven't tried all that many tbh. This seems to do the job.

thelinuxcast,

@cybersandwich I'm looking for a desktop front end or app

bytebro,

@thelinuxcast We are all different<tm> but I like it a lot just using the WebUI on Win laptop, Ubuntu laptop, and mobile. Try Preferences, Appearance, Enable advanced web interface. Not bad where I am, although web UIs can always get better.

thelinuxcast,
@thelinuxcast@fosstodon.org avatar

@bytebro Yeah, I already use that

I like Tusky, it's simple and it's open source.

thelinuxcast,

@Unaccounted4 Yeah, the mobile apps are many and good, but I'm looking for on the desktop

@thelinuxcast

Oh, my bad! You mentioned app and I assumed mobile. I just use the web client on the desktop.

redlilrascal,

@thelinuxcast @Unaccounted4 whalebird seems good, been using it for a while

simoto_revolution,

@thelinuxcast yeah I've been trying some too, but the native web interface is the most decent one so far. Maybe in the meantime, you can use Stylus (add-on) and customise it a bit.
