teamtuck,

Do I have 4 different browser running at the same time? Why yes I do. Firefox as a personal main, Safari for work, Edge for study (Azure certs), and I'm testing out Arc. I also bring up Vivaldi from time to time.

Thank goodness I bought my MBA M1 with 16GB RAM!

teamtuck,

First impressions of Arc:

  • It's Chromium based. Sigh.
  • Having tabs on the side isn't bad.
  • "Spaces" concept is something I really like.
  • "Little Arc" windows are a neat idea. Small, quick temp windows for fast lookups.
  • "Boosts" are simple ways to edit the DOM and make sites look "better". You can share your boosts too or use others.

Interesting ideas here.

#browser #arcbrowser

teamtuck,

I've got #arcbrowser using the Redirector extension so any YT video goes to my #invidious instance; works as expected. What I didn't expect? If I start playing a video and go to any other tab, Picture-in-Picture automatically comes up on the lower right corner! Super handy!

teamtuck,

Screw it, I'm having a good day and I feel pretty good. I'm going to use and learn #arcbrowser for a week and see how it stacks to #firefox. I've downloaded the mobile apps as well to sync things across devices.

teamtuck,

You can setup "Spaces" in #arcbrowser and then share them with people who don't even have Arc. Grab a group of URLs together and share them with other people. That's actually a cool feature.

teamtuck,

Ok, first hurdle with . If you have tabs open and you leave them there, they get "archived", aka closed automatically, after so many hours of your choosing (default is 6 hours). I understand why they do this (to keep things clean) but it gave me a little bit of a shock this morning lol.

Thinking about it, I think this is a me problem. I'm terrible about opening tabs and leaving them up.

Continued...

teamtuck,

Sometimes I leave them for later reference, but sometimes I leave them up for a "later" that never comes. I need to find a better way to do this.

I need a space to keep things around for "reference" and a space for "read later".

Bookmarks may be the answer but then that's something else to cleanup and manage.

Any thoughts?

ladyhope,

@teamtuck When I need to do a massive window clearing session, I submit everything there. Keeps it all for me, until I'm ready to get rid of it.

teamtuck,

@ladyhope Interesting. I don’t think I need this bad enough to pay a subscription though.

ladyhope,

@teamtuck It's also only once a year.

@ladyhope @teamtuck I've started sending my "read later" articles to Obsidian.

teamtuck,

@royal @ladyhope While that’s a great idea, I’d like for it to be integrated into the browser itself.

ladyhope,

@teamtuck @royal I would not. Decentralization is good, and I could see Google doing very bad things with that!

teamtuck,

@ladyhope @royal If there was an extension that integration with the browser and did it properly, then there shouldn’t be a problem.

There is also the probability that I could do a self hosted bookmarking service but meh. I’d probably forget about it.

@teamtuck @ladyhope There are some "save as markdown" extensions out there. Of course, you then have to leave your browser to review your saves.

teamtuck,

@royal @ladyhope That wouldn’t be bad for smaller sites/pages but large points of documentation would be nuts. I also use SingleFile which saves the page as a single HTML file, maybe even PDF?

ladyhope,

@teamtuck Oh, i do, because it's definitely worth it!!

teamtuck,

@ladyhope I love seeing people get what they pay for! A lot of things today don’t typically pan out that way….

ladyhope,

@teamtuck I've had conversations with that particular developer in the past, and he's definitely been very open to fixing any accessibility and/or usibility concerns that i had. I really never had any, but I just had a question as to why I could only see 200 links at once.

teamtuck,

@ladyhope 200 links?!?! Whoa!

ladyhope,

@teamtuck I tried to get him to put up to like 500 in, but he said it would be too hard on the database.

teamtuck,
ladyhope,

@teamtuck Oh sorry, I didn't see the animateed image. You didn't provide description for it, and neither did my client lol.

teamtuck,

@ladyhope It was a GIF of Homer Simpson saying “Whoa whoa whoa” 😀

ladyhope,

@teamtuck lol that's funny hah!

teamtuck,

@ladyhope As long as it serves you in some way, I’m all for it. I used to hoard stuff all the time but it’s hard to keep up and not have things clean lol.

ladyhope,

@teamtuck Well I don't do the terrabytes and terrabytes of files! That's for sure. I don't want to go through drives like that.

teamtuck,

@ladyhope I currently have about 12TB to play with…. 😃

ladyhope,

@teamtuck Wow That's a lot of drive space!!

teamtuck,

@ladyhope I store TV shows, movies, games, books and software, so I need the space. We are daily users and I’m a fan of having physical and digital copies of media I enjoy.

ladyhope,

@teamtuck I never heard of that until just now. That looks like something epic!!!!

teamtuck,

@ladyhope Jellyfin is so awesome. We did Plex for years but they are doing some sketchy stuff.

ladyhope,

@teamtuck It's not a whole lot if you have over 17000 like me hah!

teamtuck,

@ladyhope 17k bookmarks?!?!
