Finally! Cracked the SNCF Connect reductions mess, thanks to @RensBloom

It makes no sense, but bear with me

  1. Put ALL your reduction cards in your profile in SNCF Connect - it’ll look like Pic 1
  2. When you search it will tell you which reduction cards it is applying - orange circle on Pic 2
  3. Leave them ALL ticked, and it will NOT give me a reduction on a TER in Bourgogne-Franche-Comté (as Pic 3)
  4. Untick all except Bourgogne-Franche-Comté (as Pic 4) and I get the reduction

Trip search screen, showing I have 4 reduction cards
All the reduction cards ticked - this gives me NO reduction
Only the BFC card ticked - this DOES give me a reduction

JensGustedt,

@jon @RensBloom Have you also put a Bahncard, there? Have you ever succeeded to have BC reduction on a FR-DE train?

@JensGustedt @RensBloom I never book those with SNCF! So never tried. Sorry!

MrExal,

@jon @RensBloom What a shit show…

Last time they had the nerves to tell me that if my reduction card disappeared from their crappy app it was entirely my fault.

Don't forget to take your reduction cards screenshots if you have them only in digital.

@MrExal @RensBloom Ah, I have the original PDFs in a cloud folder precisely for this circumstance already 🙂

@jon @RensBloom so the Website knows which reduction cards are appropriate for a given journey, but doesn't actually apply them automatically?!

jon,
@jon@gruene.social avatar

@moritzkraehe Yes, at least the regional TER ones. I renewed by TER BFC card, and now it's after my Carte Avantage in my profile, and now it won't apply it unless I manually un-check the Carte Avantage first. @RensBloom

moritzkraehe,
@moritzkraehe@zug.network avatar

@jon @RensBloom Oh, wait, I seem to have underestimated the problem.

So it knows what the correct reduction cards are, but it doesn't automatically apply the correct ones, and it ignores everything after the first activated one that doesn't apply?!

jon,
@jon@gruene.social avatar

@moritzkraehe Broadly, yes. But it can somehow apply a regional one AND a long distance one, if your trip has regional and long distance trains, but how that works, and if it is reliable, I don't know. @RensBloom

And yes, a reasonably designed tool would go “does this reduction card apply?" “No” “let's apply the next card listed in the user's profile, does that apply?" “Yes” and then give me the reduction

But given this is SNCF they'd never think to do something as logical for the customer as that

jon,
@jon@gruene.social avatar

And... what happens now if I want to travel - say - Nuits-sous-Ravières - Dijon (on a TER with a BFC 26+ reduction card) and then Dijon - Mulhouse (on a TGV with a Carte Avantage reduction card)?

Does this mean I have to make separate bookings to get the best price?

This is all such a complete and total mess.

@jon I just cancelled my freshly renewed Carte Avantage when I realised it's only valid on connections with a Saturday in between.
plus ouigo/tgv/ter... it's like you only get a reduction during an eclipse on Wednesdays but it's all in the footnotes.

jon,
@jon@gruene.social avatar

@dugartogo You do get reductions on singles on weekends as well, which - just about - means it still makes sense for me to have one. But yes, it's needlessly problematic to use.
