Absolute jaw drop

Go to SNCF Grandes Lignes ticket office and ask why SNCF Connect cannot sell me tickets to Berlin any more

“C’est la faute de Deutsche Bahn!” the employee tells me

This is a flat lie

Deutsche Bahn provides this data still. The fault is with SNCF’s IT. And employees here are blaming Deutsche Bahn

@jon “à nous de vous faire préférer le train". LOSERS

Autant j'ai un grand respect pour les cheminots et toutes les personnes œuvrant à la bonne marche des trains, autant j'exècre toute leur informatique

jon,
@jon@gruene.social avatar

@Tacitus Je n'ai aucun respect pour quelqu'un qui me dit un mensonge. La question est de savoir si c'était son mensonge à elle, ou un mensonge de toute la SNCF. Dans ce dernier cas, je peux pardonner à l'employé.

Tacitus,
@Tacitus@masto.bike avatar

@jon je suis sur la même ligne, j'ai un doute sur l'origine mais j'imagine mal le guichet inventer cela

jon,
@jon@gruene.social avatar

@Tacitus J'ai du temps à Paris Nord mercredi. Je demanderai là aussi et je verrai ce qu'on me dira.

42402dot7,
@42402dot7@friendsofdesoto.social avatar

@jon but can you blame them? Can you think of an easier scapegoat?

jon,
@jon@gruene.social avatar

@42402dot7 I can. Oddly I don’t expect people to lie to me.

42402dot7,
@42402dot7@friendsofdesoto.social avatar

@jon I was not serious - in case that didn't come across.

jon,
@jon@gruene.social avatar

@42402dot7 it didn’t. Apology accepted 🙂

onterof,
@onterof@sueden.social avatar

@jon Maybe they looked at Renfe, who recently introduced a virtual queue, and were like: How could we reduce load on our crappy systems? Yeah let's no longer bother with annoying international tickets.

jon,
@jon@gruene.social avatar

@onterof they didn’t. The IT was life expired. Instead of extending it, or planning a contingency, they canned it - pending a new system to be launched at an as yet defined date.

mjr,
@mjr@masto.bike avatar

@jon @onterof defined date? Or an undefined one? It's not great if there's a known gap, but I'd expect SNCF to be leaving an indefinite gap in service

jon,
@jon@gruene.social avatar

@mjr @onterof it’s “temporary but the date when the new system will operate is unknown”

YimbyEarth,
@YimbyEarth@urbanists.social avatar

@jon
So DB changed nothing in their API? But SNCF IT changed their systems and woopsie?

If I did that at work many people would be very upset.

jon,
@jon@gruene.social avatar

@YimbyEarth No. No DB changes (I was posting about this a lot yesterday)

alda,
@alda@topspicy.social avatar

@jon @YimbyEarth it's rather common that those in charge of systems that consume APIs don't read the emails about any changes and deprecations. The change may have been announced a year ago without the SNCF reacting.

jon,
@jon@gruene.social avatar

@alda @YimbyEarth No. SNCB and SBB are likewise discontinued. Different APIs

partim,
@partim@social.tchncs.de avatar

@jon But: Are they still able to sell you a ticket to Berlin?

jon,
@jon@gruene.social avatar

@partim No. No sales for anything after 22 May.
