It is so strange to suddenly see your local places on the news when no one without connections here even knew what #Lewiston was 24 hours ago.

There were 29 homicides in #Maine in all of 2022.

I think a lot of us imagined it just wouldn’t happen here, for some silly naive reason, because it never had. But of course, on a long enough timeline, in this country…

We’re fine and safe, #Lewiston #Maine is close but still across a bay & up a highway, v. unlikely the shooter would or could get on a boat so we aren’t concerned for ourselves, but for everyone else

Schools are all cancelled; we’re staying inside today.

Pipes burst in February. Island person came to fix it, left it half done, left his equipment in my house til July, took the job replacing the floor, did nothing for 8 months, then just turned up, dumped a huge pile of flooring, & when I asked when they’d be back, they said nope, not gonna do the job bc I said I’d find a new guy

I NEVER said that. & they took 84% of my huge deposit. & aren’t bothering to finish the ceiling.

FUN STORY: The back half of my house almost fell down because ha ha fuck you in particular, Cat!

You can easily just stick a finger right through that beam like cheap cheese, and that post was secretly almost completely eaten away by carpenter ants! And because it’s just gradual wear & tear, insurance no cover!

The online reaction to the Israel-Palestine situation & Hamas attack is really showing how entirely people have leaned into their internet opinion bubbles & forgotten what their big-feelings outside voices sound like beyond their constantly-cycling outrage-dispensers.

The decency standards of any political/digital bubble aren’t really standards at all, they’re the current meta-strategy of someone’s profit model.

So a few months ago the youngs staying with me over the pre-college summer & some friends & I ran all over the island in the middle of the night in the rain singing & dancing & acting like wild kids & it was amazing & I said something I felt kind of actually mattered.
