Well, that was weird. I pressed play on a track in Apple Music and it sat on if for a fraction of as second and then went on to the next… and the next… and the next. It did this about 20 times before I quit the app. Restarted and it’s all fine now. But yeesh at the Mac app.

I feel like if I ever want to get way better at guitar, I need to look into lessons. I like my singing already, and I had lessons when I was younger, but that probably wouldn't hurt either.

@collin Yes to teachers. Also: I picked up guitar again after 10 years (kids), and the digital tools have grown up (not kids). Apps like GuitarTuna have contorted into fully fledged song libraries that not only adjust chords to your experience level, they also listen to you (of course) to scroll the lyrics while you’re playing. The Fender app is something more expensive and pretty mind-blowing to me. I have some friends in Berlin who make Uberchord — all very liberating and exciting to me.

I rarely navigate the interface with the mouse unless there is an unread dot. Everything is hidden outside of unread dms/channels and I use ⌘ + k so maybe I’ll escape relatively unscathed.

Surprised that there wasn’t a preview of sorts to prepare people. I guess it’s maybe up to the admin to enable and that’s why instances diverge? At least that bit will go away at some point? Sounds rough.

@thomasfuchs Fair point. At least Newsroom says the plastic is 68% recycled and they recycle it when you're done with it. And they didn't launch the rumored new band connector (yet) that would have rendered all bands useless going forward.

I think when your editor starts taking 60 seconds to launch, there’s no clear way it can ever be fixed, and it hasn’t had a release in two years, that’s a pretty good indication it’s time to look at alternatives.

It’s a shame because TextMate had so much going for it if it had just kept up with the times. I really do get why people love it so much.

One tricky design thing I've found with medium-sized interactive widgets is choosing button placement. The sides feel better to me, but the asymmetry of that makes me slightly unsure

@christianselig I am not sure about the buttons on the left. Aren’t those things actions to take adjacent/related to the content? Don’t you want to see the content first before you act on it? This has strong Yes/No/Cancel vibes where windows renders the default button as the first one, but we scan the entire line to see what the options are, and then have to track back. That costs so much time for hundreds of millions of people a day. Or did I misunderstand?

Yesterday was or "Non-Electric Sunday”:
An experiment where only the fridge stayed on. Devices were locked away or off — battery powered, or not.

The electric car swapped for bikes.
The Switch for a guitar.
Screens for pencils, board games, and books with too much dust, gathered.
Bulbs, for the circadian rhythm, deep conversation, and planning.

We had no idea, and didn’t really care, what time it was.

Strangely live-altering plus OK prep for the apocalypse.
Do try this at home.

@EyalL The major difference may have been in our case that our landlord is morbidly afraid of candles and we didn’t dare defy the lease. :)
