I need to go real easy today. Last evening my falling asleep period got disrupted and it cost me at least 2 hours of sleep and plus I didn't sleep deeply. So I lost important recovery time after a day of the most physical activity I've had in years.

I'm grumpy about it.

Soon gonna make my breakfast and feed Ginza her breakfast.

It's gonna be a long day.

IzabelaKaramia,
@IzabelaKaramia@writing.exchange avatar

The brain is waking up slowly but still likely to be a bad brain day, one where it always feels like it's dragging and I'll only have one or two short term memory slots at best.

For activity, just a short lollygag walk and a short lollygag cycle ride. Make some blood circulate but the prime goal of today is to nurture recovery if I can.

Tomorrow might also contribute towards that because the forecast calls for an inch of rain and depending on how I feel and how miserable the weather gets,

IzabelaKaramia,
@IzabelaKaramia@writing.exchange avatar

tomorrow could end up being a zero activity day. I'm okay with that, though I'd prefer to have at least some time that gets me traversing distance through physical space.

I had hoped to sleep around the clock, but woke up, tried to go back to sleep, and couldn't.

So I'm up now. I've already had first breakfast and think I'm going to soon make a second breakfast. Just so hungry from years of how my body had been slowly starving, but now in addition to that is much more physical activity every day. Weight has been holding steady and more importantly, I think the balance of micronutrient intake is in my favor thus far.

Unsure what I'll do today. Forecast had been for clearing skies and some sunshine, but forecast now is less optimistic. Still I plan to take a walk and a bike ride.

Yesterday I watched a video of a man who cycled across America and portions of that he did on bike trails and wow how I wish there was a bike trail near me where I could cycle without having to worry any about car traffic. There is a trail like that not all that far from me, but getting to it means either taking a long ride that

IzabelaKaramia,
@IzabelaKaramia@writing.exchange avatar

crosses two bridges or a shorter ride across a large bridge that has a corridor alongside the highway lanes. The corridor is segregated from the car traffic by concrete barriers, but it's noisy and not exactly pleasant to ride across. But I think one day when I have enough endurance, I will try to do the ride south to the cross the small bridges and then catch that bike trail back north and then ride it so I can get to the large bridge. It's a bit less terrifying to cross that bridge

from west to east.

Need to make more tea and also make Ginza her breakfast. Need to make sure she gets her food and has her energy and strength to be a little bulldozer when I sit on the bed and she likes to rub against me and give me lots of headbutts.

I did ten pushups yesterday and arms feel fine this morning. So hopefully that means the muscles in the arms have already improved enough that I can do some daily pushups and not wake up the next day with lots of soreness like happened the first time.

21.4 mile ride on the bike. Here comes 3rd breakfast.

Stopped at the turnaround point to take a break and a couple of photos. One is a sign outside a small restaurant and the other is a selfie. I haven't take one in a long time and haven't taken one since getting out here to the PNW.

The bike helmet and the bicycle are the only biking gear I have. Not visible in the selfie is the fact I was wearing a pair of jorts.

I'm standing in front of a small building and I'm wearing a bicycle helmet that I bought 8 days prior. I've already done about 11 miles on the ride and have about 10 miles to get home. Unseen in the photo how I don't have any cycling gear beyond the helmet and bicycle and that I'm wearing a pair of jorts.

Got really sleepy about an hour after the bike ride, so I took a nap of about 2 hours. Maybe that's really good to do. Eat and sleep after exercise. Those are the 2 basic means of recovery after stressing the body.

Now I'm trying to get myself ready to take an easy walk and get blood to circulate through the legs and help them recover. I can feel tiny pings of soreness down in the butt and hamstrings. The quads aren't really sore but have an odd feelings to them.

You know, I won't complain

IzabelaKaramia,
@IzabelaKaramia@writing.exchange avatar

if bicycling builds a bigger butt and thick thighs for me. I'd kinda love to have thick muscular thighs like you see on some bicyclists.

Ginza was my napping buddy. I fell asleep with her curled up in front of me as I slept on my left side. When I woke up, she was still right there, and purred loudly when she woke up too.

IzabelaKaramia,
@IzabelaKaramia@writing.exchange avatar

3.8 mile easy paced walk to help circulate blood to the legs and get me time on my feet. Need to get that time on feet to help strengthen the muscles and bones and prep them for when I start running again.

Stopped and took photos at times along the way.

Had sunshine every now and then. But on the cool side with temps only in the upper 50s F. I'm used to having sunny days with temps up in the 70s and low 80s. Those are my happy temps.

IzabelaKaramia,
@IzabelaKaramia@writing.exchange avatar

I've eaten my early dinner, washed dishes, and am now sitting down to relax and drink tea.

Legs feel tired, but good. There's a pleasant sensation of strength even with the tiredness in them from having walked and cycled more than 25 miles today. I feel closer to achieving an important but almost forgotten goal I had when I started transition -- to have good feeling runs where I felt a sense of easy speed and strength.

I want to know that feeling again in the context of this changed body.

IzabelaKaramia,
@IzabelaKaramia@writing.exchange avatar

Youtube has The Natural (1984) available to watch and I'll enjoy watching it again. So that's my after dinner entertainment to wind myself down with today.

Didn't achieve the goal of sleeping around the clock, but I did sleep 11 hours so that's good. I needed a night of long sleep.

I've had breakfast and have fed Ginza hers.

Feel pretty good physically. Arms are no longer sore from the ten pushups I did Thursday morning. So today some point I will do a set of ten pushups and see how the arms feel tomorrow. But yeah, I hope to rebuild arm strength and body core strength.

Weather might make outdoor activity short in time today.

IzabelaKaramia,
@IzabelaKaramia@writing.exchange avatar

I wrote yesterday about rehabbing myself, my body, now that I'm getting all the nutrients I need and the body is able to rebuild better after exercise. Wrote about how my body has had many compromised movement patterns but how now due to the all too many years of fatigue and unable to do things like hiking and running, I'm more like a blank slate.

Sometimes people talk about the body's core, which generally refers to the torso, the spine, the ribcage and their musculature. But

IzabelaKaramia, (edited )
@IzabelaKaramia@writing.exchange avatar

even more important than the core is what the core sits upon, the hips and pelvic girdle and the butt which has the largest muscle of the body, the gluteus maximus.

And so much of our movement, both athletic and daily mundane, needs strong hips, stability and mobility.

I've found a good series of drills to help with that. So let me link you to the video for the Awesomiser.

Ran errands to get supplies for the week. When I got back, heated up a second breakfast because of how incredibly hungry I felt along with how nutrition is so important for me at this stage. It really feels like the body knows how I'm now getting it fed with everything it needs...

and it needs so much, especially with how I'm doing more physically active stuff each day. So it tells me it's hungry and I listen to what it says.

All so I can soon run again.

Today's plan in part because of weather and also in part because of what I hope to do tomorrow is for an easy walk and an easy bike ride. I want to save energy for tomorrow's bike ride which will feature hill climbing.

After walking and biking, plan is to eat 2 more meals, which will make today a 4 meal day and I feel that's good for me to do when I have opportunity. Meal eating gets complicated at times as type 1 diabetic, especially when trying to get in physical activity.

IzabelaKaramia,

Ginza is enjoying a good nap on this gray, damp, and chilly day in the PNW.

IzabelaKaramia,
@IzabelaKaramia@writing.exchange avatar

Today had weirdness, which threw a few things off.

But I had a short walk that got cut short and then ended up doing 2 cycle rides, first about 7.5 miles and the second about 4 miles. Ate my early dinner about 20 minutes ago.

IzabelaKaramia,
@IzabelaKaramia@writing.exchange avatar

But a cool thing about the second bike ride is that it took me up over 100 miles of cycling. Now we can start looking forward to crossing 1000 miles of cycling sometime in the next 3 to 4 months?
