Guitar Wolf destroyed me with everlasting high energy punk rock last night...and it was absolutely worth it! Japanese Punk Rock from that era has always been a favorite of mine, and to actually get to see one of those legendary bands perform in person was absolutely amazing.

Also, those guys are like 20 years older than me but still had more energy than half the audience there after a full set and two encore performances!

Multiple moments of crowdsurfing occurred wherein i had the privilege to touch Japanese rock legend butts!

They pulled an older lady up on stage at one point and just handed her a guitar....and through the power of rock inspired her to open up and jump around stage rocking out with them on the guitar!

Basically, if you get the chance go see them while they're touring the US because it was absolutely brilliant.

@tess the frontman declared at one point that they were going to show us how to love and then gave us brilliant, sexy rock and roll. I kissed a girl by the end of the night, so....um...maybe it worked? 🤭

I was also really impressed by the opener, Hans Condor! Great energy and the band members could play off each other so well. And very engaging and participatory with the audience. Perfect warm up!

There’s a new island! On Friday we released four males to Te Puka-Hereka/Coal Island, the southern-most island in Fiordland, with Ngāi Tahu and the Coal Island Trust. This is to help relieve the pressure for space on the main breeding islands.

Trans reflections:

When i was a guy, i was often assumed to be like 5 years older than I was, and often treated as more mature and knowledgable than I actually was. I was seen as an absent-minded professor type, and given grace in my mistakes and treated as very credible (the persuasiveness of confident white man voice is dangerous).

As a woman, i am often assumed to be roughly 10 years younger than i am (estrogenated vampire skin!), and people assume I am inexperienced or don't know how to do a lot of things. Meanwhile, now, I have over a decade and a half of nonprofit management and community engagement experience, I am a published trans studies scholar who teaches queer and trans studies, I run a program serving hundreds of trans youth across the country, and more. I've lived in 5 radically different countries and speak 3 languages. And like...I'm now often talked down too and seen as inexperienced and discounted as probably not knowing much.

someone asked me if I'm single and my reaction was weird, so I didn't answer

but I mean, I'm not dating? I live alone. I sleep alone. I haven't been with anyone for several years. I hardly even get hugs, more than a handful per year. and I'd very much like to change all of those things.

but "single"? I don't know, it sounds so off. I guess it implies a lot of stuff about relationships that I've just stopped pretending like I like, accept or even understand at all

so what's the answer? am I single?

@jasmine definitely a good point, and it's something we need other words for. Makes me think of how there's things like solo polyamory and also folks who just aren't wanting partnership of any kind, and who's lives are whole and complete without it.

I've been also debating the use of the word "single" for myself. I want to communicate i don't have committed romantic or sexual partnership with anyone in contexts where i want others to consider asking me out on a date. But i am married (though we're more sisters than partners) and i am polyamorous so I will very likely keep dating even after having a partner if i should find one. Like, how do i communicate the open capaciry of what i can give right now and what i want?

All these words really fall short these days

One of the funniest things about how my brain responded to having severe ADHD: i get hyperfocused on metaphors and then tangents within the metaphors until they spiral out of control and lose any coherence. 😅

It makes for some interesting observations...once own parses and clears the wreckage of my derailed train of thought. And the train derailed because it hit a cow and there's just metaphorical viscera and entrails all over the place anx now we need to call in a specialist technician to help get the train of thought back on track but they aren't available on weekends so we'll just have to deal with this metaphor being an absolute disaster....um, what was i talking about? 😅

@jasmine ugh, right? After 5 years of transition and over a year of intense trauma therapy, i'm finally at the point where I've excavated most of the layers of trauma and really cleaned up this psychological mess....so now i can see where all the random cords and wires are and usually step over them until i get distracted and trip over them and wind up all tangled in the damn mess again. 😅

Okay, that metaphor may have gotten away from me, but maybe it's helpful in some weird way 🤣
