Hi there, my name is Andy, I'm from Belgium.
I spend most of my free time digitising and restoring classic video game magazines, mostly from the UK.
I've been doing this for nearly 20 years now and I'm here to share my passion for these magazines with others.
I love to read and talk about gaming memories from years gone by.

My main hobbies are gaming, both modern and retro gaming, as well as Japanese, South Korean and classic Hong Kong cinema.

Everyone wants to be From Soft these days, huh? 😅

But seriously, this has been a great showcase so far.
Nice variety as well.
Only thing that’s missing is some great Japanese games. But that’s just me.

Wondering which ones will be multi platform.

Oh new Rebellion IP!
That’s great to see. 😄

I just completed my hunt for the remaining PSone games on PS3 from the Japanese PSN store that were on my list.

And thanks to the low Yen, point cards are super cheap right now.
€70 or $73 for a 100000 Yen card!

This weeks The Back Page is a bit extra special as Samuel Roberts is joined by Darran Jones, the editor of Retro Gamer Magazine.

Highly recommended this one.

Preview for Sagaia on Sega Master System from Sega Force 6 - June 1992 (UK)

I usually always gravitate towards Darius Gaiden by default, but this past month I've been delving into the others again thanks to the Darius collections and I'm still amazed just by how creative these all were.
Brilliant series.
And I don't know what it is, but this line goes straight to my soul: 🥰

Review for Gynoug on Mega Drive from Sega Force 6 - June 1992 (UK)

Another one I adored back in the day.
The designs, not only of the enemies, but the levels itself is something to behold.
Blew my mind back when it came out.
This one is also available today on modern platforms.

Loved this one back in the day.
Somehow never hear anything about it besides a single mention in a Youtube video like every year or so.
I really should dig this one out one of these days.

I just got the preview link to the new Pandamonium video and man, is this something special.

It's a 4 hour and 40 minute deep dive into SEGA Rally in the arcade and on Sega Saturn.
With tons of translated interviews and behind the scenes revelations.

It should be released to the public next weekend, so while I can't share it right now, I do highly recommend his deep dive into Virtua Cop to anyone who hasn't seen it:

Forgot to check my mailbox. 👀

The 3 Japanese games are from the 3 for €100 or so at Play Asia and I had put Wanted Dead in my basket on Thursday only to see on Friday that it dropped to €15 on Friday. So half off, so I couldn’t resist.

For me that was Resident Evil 3. Never played it till this day actually.
Got all the other ones for the most part.

Just skimmed through it as I'm saving this one to watch later this afternoon when I start scanning a new magazine.
But this show is looking absolutely incredible.
And since I'm not seeing much about it anywhere, I decided to post it here.

The big one that jumped out at me right now is UFO 50, which looks simply amazing.
the UFO 50 part starts at 14:47.

This line in particular caught my eye:
"Additionally, this establishes Day of the Devs as being fully independent from other video game related organizations, which clarifies our commitment to being 100% platform agnostic."

Perhaps I'm reading too much into it, but it makes me hopeful, sound the worst ever happen and MS look at them like Tango, that Double Fine would be able to buy themselves out and continue without MS instead of being shuttered.

@Dennis5891 I got it when it came out. People hated on the game since it wasn't a direct sequel to Yoshi's Island.
But if you take it on it's own, I really liked it and had a blast with it.

Ah, I see.

While I've bought well over a hundred pinball games over the years, starting on the NES and all the way up to this gen, including Japan exclusive ones on the Saturn and PC-Engine, I somehow missed out on this series.

Always wanted to get the SNES versions but never saw them in any shops back in the day.

OutofPrintArchive,
@OutofPrintArchive@mstdn.games avatar

@apzpins
Oh wow. I had no idea there were so many. Those two definitely are the ones that keep popping up in magazines.
But I think that might be because these are the ones that were ported the most.

Two of my favourites are Necronomicon and Last Gladiator on Saturn. But I adore Rare’s Pin.Bot on NES. I can play that one for days on end still.

OutofPrintArchive,
@OutofPrintArchive@mstdn.games avatar

@apzpins
After Pin.Bot, High Speed was such a disappointment for me.
While it’s probably even more impressive technically speaking, for some reason, I just don’t get along with the table.
I was playing it last night in Pinball FX as well and it still doesn’t flow for me like it should.
I don’t enjoy any of the shots.
Not a fan of the theme either, but that’s the least of the issues I have.
Really weird as I tend to find something I really like in most tables.

CVG 149 - April 1994 (UK) has just been added to the magazine catalogue.

I really dislike this cover.
I don't like sports covers in general, but to put American Football on a European video game magazine cover, sure is a choice... 👀
But there's quite a bit of great content in the magazine itself.
