I once worked with goats. I moved into tech. This was a mistake. Expect sheep, wool, and textile history. Also birbs. Infosec on occasion. I use content warnings for topics and images that can trigger PTSD. I do not use them to shield people without trauma from experiencing racism, sexism, transphobia, and other forms of discrimination. If you can ignore politics, you’re not likely in need of content warnings for much of anything, really.

Also we need to have a serious conversation about how so many folks being hostile towards content creators on Mastodon is preventing this place from becoming more diverse.

A significant amount of open source relies on free time from people who don't have caregiving responsibilities, and a lack of generational wealth to make up for, among other things.

Paid gigs are subject to the usual racism, sexism, and harassment issues as closed source, for profit tech.

There is progress, but developers could use some humility re: not tech work.

Why do we call it inflation and not "rich people deciding they want more of your money for the same things"?

Yes yes I know the rich people feelings graph is an ineffable force made of very complicated maths blah blah but sometimes it boils down to something.

99% of this deeply silly “obesity debate” could be solved if people recognized that we don’t all share one body. What’s important to you might not be to others, what you love others might not, what healthy for you might be painful or even dangerous for someone else.

Don’t assume fat people are ignorant about nutrition and bad at self control. Don’t assume thin people are healthy and happy and in control. If you really care? ask.

@futurebird

lots of people don't want to think about the loss of control that our bodies surprise us with from time to time.
"What do you mean I can eat this and drink that and move like this and still end up a shape that society has taught me is the wrong one? Surely it's a moral failing and I'm safe!"
Weight gain along with feeling good should be celebrated.

I am the very model of a hacker individual,
I’ve information cryptographic, analog and digital,
I know every cypherpunk, adhere to Kerckhoff’s principle,
I bounce from node to node so I can make myself invisible.

I’m very well acquainted, too, with server vulnerability,
I escalate my privilege and I trash availability,
I know the latest breaches and I know first when the ‘net’s ablaze,
Nets ablaze nets ablaze…
With many cheerful facts about developments in zero days.
