Made some great progress on @mattrbld today. 💪 Feels great to actually end the day reaching a milestone that was looming over me for a couple of months now. 😊
Am I the only one who finds this whole Drafts-shenanigans #Figma is currently pulling a bit odd? 🤔
Just moved all my personal drafts to a new personal team on my personal Figma account, because you know, I do actually have a paid work account for everything that has to do with my work where I collaborate with people. 😅
(Please, please don’t get enshittified Figma, I have no viable replacement for you. 🤞)
Gosh my healthcare provider just replaced their perfectly fine albeit slow online portal with a new portal that’s operated almost exclusively via a chat bot. Not even a LLM powered one, a really dumb one. 😳
It took me nearly fifteen minutes to transfer my account to the new platform. The #UX was horrendous. It looks like a scam / some sort of phishing.
TFW it’s Friday and the domain transfer hasn’t completed yet and you’re pretty sure you’ll have to rush in on the weekend to restore DNS settings to keep downtime minimal… 😅
Apparently the German government paid Microsoft 198 million Euro for software licenses in 2023 alone…and all I can think of is the good that such a large sum could do if instead it was donated to the Linux foundation and various other #FOSS projects. 😳
You know, spending all that tax money on something that would actually benefit all the tax payers instead of ending up in shareholder pockets? 😅
“Yes but they tried Linux and it failed” I hear some people say and to that I can only reply: well, maybe it wouldn’t have failed if they had invested nearly 200 million into it every year. 😒
That feeling when you really want to get a @frameworkcomputer because you really love what the company is trying to do but can’t justify buying yet another laptop. 😅
Maybe I’ll let myself be swayed all the way once there’s a German keyboard with a super key instead of the Windows key available. 😉
And for what it’s worth, I don’t mind rounded display corners at all. 👌
Where do you guys get your design inspiration from these days? I’m especially interested in #web and #app design. I used to use Dribbble a lot in the past, but it seems to have shifted towards illustrative content and there’s just a lot to sift through before finding something in my niche. 🤔
My #iPhone is barely half a year old and already the haptic motor seems to be failing? 😳 There’s a sharp clicking sound / rap on the back of my phone on some vibrations. Seems unrelatedly the actual strength of the haptic feedback and only happens about once in every three or four vibrations, but it’s concerning.
I remember a time when I was excited about #GoogleIO, but for a few years now, it’s always felt like a drawn out death rattle with repeating information, cringe jokes and performances, and innovation that feels like it’s trying very hard to convince people of its usefulness when actually it’s just empty promises. 😅
@amxmln yeah, I still do some web dev in my free time to keep an eye on its progress and it's a lot better than it used to be, for sure. It'll be interesting to see where we are in 5-10 years now that smartphones have basically stopped any meaningful innovation and are mostly commodities now. Well, I say that no meaningful innovation has happened but new tooling like Jetpack Compose has made it easier than ever to make native apps. No one has quite cracked the cross platform enigma yet either
@billy yeah cross-platform-ness is a big reason I like the web. I feel like it’s the only true way to offer something on almost any platform from the same code base. Plus, using HTML and CSS for UIs just feels right to me. 😅
That being said, I haven’t done much native development, so I can’t really say how things are going on that front.
I really wish websites would stop automatically showing me an AI translated version of their content. Yes, my OS is set to German, but that doesn’t mean I want to read technical content in German as well, especially when it’s obviously badly translated by a LLM. 😒
