I admit, I saw a Cybertruck when I was about to get onto the NJ Turnpike.

It really looks ugly. :neocat_facepalm:

The current best hydrogen generation processes is only 40-60% energy efficient, which is a lot worse than battery loss, and it depends on how clean a plant's electricity source is.

Each person or small group of people having their own private moving box is still much less efficient than sharing a huge box :ablobcatreachflip: Public transport is better when enough people take it.

I'm happy that Cara appears to be growing well, but their recent $13,500/mth for database bills just proves that they might be waaay over their heads.

The site is image heavy, and it looks like they're using... Cloudflare CDN, which is fine, but I worry that they'll hit the 'professional limits' and be forced to pay 'enterprise' rates, maybe that's why they got such a huge bill.

And Techcrunch with the analysis of the $96,280 Vercel bill for the last week, in addition to their $13,500 database bill... Ouch.

According to the FAQ, it's self-funded with additional Ko-Fi.

It looks like their job-posting board for artists could potentially be monetized. A legit art commission platform from actual artists instead of techbros would be awesome.

The thing is that it could actually be funded in the future because the team appears to be very well connected with actual Art Directors and bigshots. The founder is the lady who won the plagiarism case against the dude who basically traced her work, so their anti-AI stance is legit. https://www.zhangjingna.com/blog/luxembourg-copyright-case-win-against-jeff-dieschburg

Reading a few tea textbooks right now. :blobfoxread:

Fukamushi Sencha (深蒸し煎茶) is a type of green tea and is the most commonly consumed tea 🍵 in Japan. It is preferred for its rich taste and full mouthfeel. It is best prepared with 70°C (~158°F) to avoid harsh flavors and excess bitterness...

This explains why just dumping freshly boiled water doesn't work, got it.

anianimalsmoe,
@anianimalsmoe@sakurajima.moe avatar

@chemoelectric
I don't think it'll be easy for me to find bancha outside of Japan because even OSK mid-grade sencha is relatively cheap here and that's what I used. :blobfoxteamlem:

anianimalsmoe,
@anianimalsmoe@sakurajima.moe avatar

So a trick from this "A Beginner's Guide to Japanese Tea" is to brew sencha in refrigerated water and leave to steep for 5 minutes. The taste will enhance the umami (Glutamic acid & L-theanine) and sweetness (L-theanine, free sugars) without the bitterness (various polyphenols).

I just tried it on some cheap sencha, and it tastes much better than some warm brewed midrange gyokuro (the expensive type of Japanese tea). :leafeonmoney:

My tea haul. Japanese tea first buds were harvested recently as shincha 新茶 which has the strongest flavor, and aslo the most expensive. :leafeonmoney:

After going for tea theory and practical lessons and reading a few tea books, I think I can appreciate the flavors now. :ablobfoxhypercofe:

Also tried out some new techniques to get amazing flavors from significantly cheaper teas (not shown).

Halfway to redoing my website with 'newer' and features.

I guess bug fixing and proper documentation / 3rd party support make Next 14 much easier than the mess that Next 13 was.

anianimalsmoe,
@anianimalsmoe@sakurajima.moe avatar

@dopey_kun Ah, useOptimistic is pretty useful, but it may backfire if actions don't actually succeed and the user closes the page before actions complete.

I also switched from react-hook-form to TanStack Form because it already has built-in support for the new React hook useFormState.

anianimalsmoe,
@anianimalsmoe@sakurajima.moe avatar

@dopey_kun I like that it's very Typescript friendly and simpler than the documentation for react-hook-form. I did really crazy dynamic array stuff with react-hook-form that can be significantly cleaner with TanStack Form. It also has stubs for doing server-side validation in the same json as client-side, which simplifies forms even more.

anianimalsmoe, (edited )
@anianimalsmoe@sakurajima.moe avatar

@dopey_kun Oof. I hit a wall for TanStack Form, it uses a unusual protections when iterating arrays that prevents any setstate from happening inside array code... Which prevents me from using setstate for triggering a confirmation popup onClick of a delete button within the array. Similarly triggering state within a nested array.

Did nobody test it with complex dynamic forms at all? :ablobcatnodmeltcry:

    Sigh. The news of teachers having illicit relations with students / ex-students in Japan is so common that it's become a joke in .

    And Japan still has minimal repercussions for teachers in these situations; they often get dismissed and banned from working in a school /prefecture, so they move and repeat in another one. The schools are strapped for manpower and they don't bother checking. :neocat_facepalm:
