The justice we seek isn't merely what we take but what we make. Many things may go wrong at the NYC hush money trial: A not guilty verdict, a hung jury, jury nullification, or a fast-tracked Trump appeal to the right-wing SCOTUS overturning a guilty verdict. We should depend not on the courts but on ourselves to rid America of the Trump-Republican scourge. Participate, organize and vote.

chemoelectric,
@chemoelectric@masto.ai avatar

@YouGiveMeFever It is a New York case, not a federal one, and so appeals go to Albany, not Washington. And there is no federal angle to it. He was not performing presidential duties in even the remotest way. He was writing business checks for Trump Org.

But everyone should be aware Trump is charged with a class E felony. The sentence for a class E felony is normally up to 4 years PROBATION. He will not go to prison merely to satisfy the lust of the public. The law has to be followed.

chemoelectric,
@chemoelectric@masto.ai avatar

@YouGiveMeFever You dismiss my points by stating, essentially, that you will accept no points, and then you declare that people want to "make the best of their own lives" by imposing mob justice (prison) instead of following the law (probation).

You are not preparing people, you are rabble-rousing. You seem not even to have been aware the penalty was probation rather than prison, or else you would have prepared people for that.

Media coverage of Republicans stampeding to NYC to attack Trump's trial as illegit is marred by euphemism. This isn't just "currying favor" w Trump or "expressing loyalty" or auditioning to be his VP. It's placing Trump over rule of law

Rs are attacking judge, witnesses, prosecutors & trial as illegitimate. This isn't just helping Trump evade the gag order. The point is also to display in spectacle form that their fealty is to him over the rules that make the system function

Though I am always very concerned about the Conservative Party getting full control under a nutso PM. Still, that is a hypothetical. But it is not a slow process. It is something that can happen in one election.

I was in Canada when Parliament was dissolved and, later, not only did the Progressive Conservatives lose control, but they retained only two seats. Kim Campbell lost hers. Things can change that rapidly.

Making a note of all the “expert” commentators who seem genuinely surprised at the resistance “AI” is getting from the public and regulators. You don’t have to agree with the reasons, but they’re generally obvious with a basic analysis. Anybody surprised probably isn’t worth much as an analyst

chemoelectric,
@chemoelectric@masto.ai avatar

@baldur @pettter

It is partly that they do not see just how BAD the technology is, and how OBVIOUSLY on the wrong tracks it is.

I had a guy try to impress me with a long printout of an AI-observed scene, but I pointed out what was supposed to impress me was that the output was embedded in elegant English.

Nevertheless it could not reproduce the intelligence of a mere lizard or cat, which involves no language and so cannot POSSIBLY be modeled linguistically.

chemoelectric,
@chemoelectric@masto.ai avatar

@baldur @pettter

I resist because it is more of people doing stupid things while believing they are being smart.

(They could be smart but haven't the hint of a chance at it, in our benighted society. Only iconoclasts can be smart in the society we are plagued with.)

chemoelectric,
@chemoelectric@masto.ai avatar

@baldur @pettter

In case it is not obvious, human intelligence MUST have the same foundations as cat intelligence, even though language alters the nature of it tremendously. (Language makes it possible to accumulate knowledge across the generations.)

chemoelectric,
@chemoelectric@masto.ai avatar

@datarama @baldur @pettter

It is evident to anyone who has had a few garter snakes that they have individual preferences in diet.

chemoelectric,
@chemoelectric@masto.ai avatar

@datarama @baldur @pettter They have relatives who are solitary bees, though. So the hive life may be misleading.

chemoelectric,
@chemoelectric@masto.ai avatar

@datarama What I mean is that a honeybee is likely to be similar to a solitary bee, but ALSO eusocial. Not a separate development that is completely different from solitary bees and wasps and much stupider than them.

Human intelligence is affected by social setting more than is acknowledged BTW. Both positively and negatively. A PhD in quantum physics, for instance, can destroy an individually promising cerebral cortex that could have flourished with a degree in, say, chemistry.

chemoelectric,
@chemoelectric@masto.ai avatar

@datarama And a human alone, without books, is a static intelligence.

Similarly, who can explain why journalism theory does not include that it it all has to appeal to the customer, who are the advertisers: https://beige.party/@bdiss/112450971333321598

We live in a benighted culture based on a pile of bogus theories.

Topping them all BTW is "quantum physics".

(I refer to the cult metatheory of it, not the formulas, which happen to be correct, because they were discovered empirically. If you ask me, "Then how do you explain...?" then you are a victim of the cult.)

chemoelectric,
@chemoelectric@masto.ai avatar

But back to journalism. If journalism "critics" from within the field were more honest, they would include the need of journals to please their customers as the foremost consideration, and then all would make since and there would be nothing to complain about.

They could simply make the recommendation that you not purchase the New York Times unless what you expect is appeal to Bergdorf-Goodman and that MSNBC has much lower standards than that.

chemoelectric,
@chemoelectric@masto.ai avatar

Probably fewer newspapers would be failing if journalists had been taught proper theory, too. If they knew what their primary role in society was was to appeal to customers, and that conveying news was a means.

If what they wished to do was to convey news, rather than appeal to customers, they'd invent or go into a different, but related field. They might become Cassandras, for instance. I am a Cassandra, perhaps.

@paninid Bibi knows all about rewarding terrorists. He offered them a reward of removing Jews from France for attacking French Jews, too.

chemoelectric,
@chemoelectric@masto.ai avatar

@paninid Way back when, his government's response to the big attacks in Paris was not condolences and aid, but to encourage French Jews to move to Israel. French Jewish leaders were livid and "apologies" were issued.

But let's draw conclusions: Bibi LIKES attacks on the Diaspora. They aid him politically, by increasing his support base with fresh immigrants.

Seriously, no one who writes about cable news coverage from any other angle is ACTUALLY writing about the subject. They are writing about some fantasy world. The issue is what is the advertising value of the story.

My whole life I avoided pink. I'm a masculine individual and never liked being seen as girly, and pink is associated with femininity. Lately a pretty masculine guy I love told me pink is his favourite color, and I finally felt like maybe after all, pink could be genderless. Euphoria, positivity, optimism, joy, all encapsulated in this stunning gift of a color and could fit all genders.
I made those celebrating my newfound love for pink. Find yours here: https://www.etsy.com/shop/genderlessbyskaly

Handmade layered set of two pink necklaces, one with agate beads and pendant and the other with a pink butterfly light pendant With fitting purple amethyst bracelet and pink-white rhombic glass earrings
Photo of me in a pink turtle necklace top modelling a handmade silver zircon necklace, I have pink lips, green eyes and golden eyeshadows, and dark brown hair
Handmade Rosq Quartz set of rectangular many light pink rose quartz gemstone beads and large gemstone long pendant, with fitting gemstone earrings and bracelet beaded with hematite styled beads and pink glass beads

@thisisskaly I'm a very "man-like" man, and one of the things I did yesterday was make a cast of a little fairy in wax. I also made a candle in robin's egg blue.

I like such things. Neither do I want a big pick-up truck (though I do miss having a hatchback or station wagon, as I have had formerly).
