@darnell@DrPen I’m in NZ. Less so an experience of abuse when out and about, as much as just being frozen out/ignored, and ultimately left behind by some folk when I got long COVID.
My friends/family back in the UK definitely don’t understand why I’m not giving the virus a free ride though
@darnell@DrPen but really it’s less about active abuse from randoms, and more about that general level of it being normal for people not to bother mitigating it any more.
If you understand the science of it all, and still don’t mask etc, then that behaviour adds up the same as anti-maskers approach to it all really
Filing taxes is always stressful in the #UnitedStates 🇺🇸 (as the #IRS are ruthless), but this should make it less expensive.
Unfortunately, I have to file taxes with my state too (like most citizens in #America 🇺🇸), so unless my state provides something similar, I will probably be paying the same rate to have my taxes done.
I would not be surprised if #Automattic (the company behind #WordPress) will shut down #Tumblr in five years, as the user base does not understand how much it costs to run a social network.
They want everything awesome for free, & that is unsustainable.
If the #UnitedStates 🇺🇸 wants to attract more recruits to the military, they should consider increasing the salaries of soldiers to at least $100,000 (yes, I am serious).
People are risking their lives a to defend the country, so the reward should be worth the risk.
Perhaps it’s just me, but it seems as if I am reading about more tornados 🌪️ in the #UnitedStates 🇺🇸 than usual. Also hail as well (which use to be a rare weather event when I was kid).
@darnell Although, according to that article, what we’re seeing is a decline in the number of days per year that tornados are reported but an increase in the number of tornados reported on days when there’s an outbreak, so the patterns are definitely shifting.
Growing up in an area commonly referred to as “tornado alley,” it hasn’t struck me as particularly different from usual, but I guess we’re now having dozens per storm system instead of a few.
Gosh, remember 20 years ago when we were all talking about kids around the world getting laptops for $100 that ran 100% Free/Open Source software that they would be able to fix themselves?
Intel worked so hard to kill that with the rise of the Netbook, and then Apple killed the netbook with tablets.
But now we have companies like Framework and MNT that are building highly fixable machines, and machines of today are far more capable than they were in 2005.
I'm not dismissing the issue of IT costs and ongoing maintenance, but I think this is a fixable problem, if we as a society cared.
@darnell@darnell That is messed up. Although I do question why the family needed to prevent everyone from eating anything that could have nuts instead of simply wearing a mask. An N95 can easily block peanut dust. We are not talking about some type of microscopic virus. Regardless, the captain was out of line.
At the end of my mini vacation (I went to Ghana 🇬🇭) I had some extra Cedi’s (currency in Ghana 🇬🇭), so I decided to use the rest of it purchasing a large Djembe (African drum). I actually had to verify if I could bring it on the plane ✈️ (I was not sure if it would fit) but the airport employees said it was okay. Ironically, at virtually every stop (Accra, London, Philadelphia, etcetera), airport 🔛 @darnell (Out Of Office) 🏞️ See More:
@darnell seriously, if any part of your job ever involves you having to write a sentence blaming a nine-year-old for anything other than getting their hand caught in a cookie jar, reevaluate your life choices.
