One of the neighbors with a huge truck that has never seen a load in the bed has it (and his other 3 cars) detailed every friggin week.

The detailer runs a generator and a compressor and a pressure washer - all obnoxiously loud for hours at a time. Then uses a god damned leaf blower to dry it. FFS. Just use a towel. Jeeze.

And this is CA. No need to wash your cars this often. Waste of time, money, water, and fossil fuels

@ai6yr I've been tempted at times to get a battery op one, but only if it is reversible with a bag. i.e. sucks up the leaves which are chopped by the fan blades and deposited in the bag to be emptied back on a non-walkway portion of the landscape.

exador23,
@exador23@m.ai6yr.org avatar

@ai6yr I never want biomass to leave the property unless absolutely necessary. I sweep up leaves on walkways then dump it right back on the non-walkway areas.

Suppresses weeds and significantly decreases soil evaporation. The biggest drawback is on one property where I've been doing this for 5 years, the topsoil has grown 3-5" and threatens to overspill the borders in spots. lol.

Frustrated with DuckDuckGo. I need solid news searches.

When I read about something newsworthy, I like to read several articles on it. i.e. Saudi Arabia is arresting people for anti-Israel social media posts.

https://duckduckgo.com/?q=saudi+arabia+crackdown+anti-israeli

Plenty of articles, except every single one of them when read references a Bloomberg report. But that report isn't in the search results, and of the derivative articles I've read, none of them link back to the source.

exador23,
@exador23@m.ai6yr.org avatar

I did finally find it by adding "bloomberg" to the search terms. But jeeze. shouldn't have to do that. The organization that gets the scoop should be the first search result.

A good search engine would easily know that "bloomberg" was a related keyword because it appears in the first paragraph of every article whose results were prioritized over bloomberg's

@ai6yr fwiw, you get far fewer of those with a regular search instead of the 'news' tab. And for the most part, if you're searching a current event, most of the results are indeed news orgs.

@ai6yr I hadn't noticed that distinction of growing habitat. See them along the 33, but not in abundance. wonder if that's why.

@ai6yr could be the little native bees.

Some of the varieties available in select nurseries are gorgeous. There's a dark maroon one ringed with yellow/orange, and a fiery orange & red one.

Monkey flowers amid a white sage plant, with yellow bulbine and lavender baja sage blooms poking thru. The monkeyflowers are maroon colored with yellow/orange at the very tips of the petals.

The pro-genocide mob at specifically targeted student journalists just as Israel targets journalists in Gaza.

https://www.latimes.com/california/story/2024-05-01/four-student-journalists-attacked-by-counterprotesters-at-ucla

Catherine Hamilton, 21, told The Times she recognized one who had previously harassed her & taken pictures of her press badge. The individual instructed the group to encircle the student journalists, before they sprayed them with pepper spray, & chanted Hamilton’s name.

As she tried to break free, she was punched repeatedly in the chest & upper abdomen; another student journalist was pushed to the ground & beaten & kicked for nearly a minute.

Hamilton went to the hospital, when the bruising made it difficult for her to breathe.

DailyBruin: 25 protesters within the pro-Palestine encampment were hospitalized overnight, a UC Divest at spokesperson said in a press conference.

This is the result of 4+ hours of non-stop attacks on the encampment by a primarily non-student pro-genocide mob while police did nothing, or in some cases even watched and filmed it on their phones.

The pro-genocide protesters who sent 25 students to the hospital during their attacks last night were sponsored by hedge fund billionaire Bill Ackman and Jessica Seinfeld (wife of Jerry Seinfeld) along with other anonymous astro-turfing donations.

https://www.thedailybeast.com/jessica-seinfeld-and-bill-ackman-fund-pro-israel-counterprotests-at-ucla

“I just gave to this GoFundMe to support more allies like yesterday’s at UCLA,” Seinfeld wrote this week. “More cities are being planned so please give what you can. Donations are annonymous [sic]. We will continue to share our light and love, as proud American Jews.”

Everyone last night from the Mayor of NY to the Police Chief to Columbia's admin to all the major media claimed there were professional activists who infiltrated the student movement without providing evidence. This was one of the main reasons to raid Hind Hall and arrest everyone.

Well, the arrest records are now available and every last person there was a Columbia student.

That's what you get for buying into a proprietary standard (owned by an idiot with the emotional stability of a toddler) instead of an open standard.

@ai6yr @John

I suspect that's what Jack is trying to do with Bluesky and their supposed 'federation'. And why I have no interest in it.

Just ignore ActivityPub and the related standard open protocols that have been developed over the last 16 years that work just fine in order to force their own standard.

Ventura county has done absolutely nothing to the damaged section. They haven't even reported it in a way that the closure would be incorporated into gps maps.
