well this sucks! I can't play shooter! I press enter on the exe file, and it just sits there looking at me like I am stupid. now how fair is that? @FluidEscence you need to fix this! my day is ruened if I can't play my game! just kidding. lol. it is version 0.70 I am having issues with if that matters. I played it earlier today, but now it won't load, and I can't reboot the computer, or I will disterb the boys shows on there tv's.

jaybird110127,

@JamminJerry @FluidEscence I can't run Crime Hunter. I could yesterday. It says Loading, then just exits. The errors.log in the data directory ends with something about a timeout while trying to connect to itch.io.

jaybird110127,

@FluidEscence @seedy @JamminJerry @jpellis2008 @nycki96 Figured as much. Crime Hunter won't run, and I'm sure it's for the same reason.

How come when certain users post here, it just lists the client as Mastodon? Where as when I post something, it usually says, Tweescake, Mona for iPhone, etc? I've always wondered that.

jaybird110127,

@jmd2000 When a client is listed as Mastodon, that means that post didn't originate from your instance. For whatever reason, when a post federates from one instance to another, the name of the client used to create that post does not federate along with the post itself.

I find it weird when people replace the audio in videos of them going somewhere with a random song. I want to hear what the place sounds like, also what does Bill Withers' Lovely Day have to do with a market in Denmark?

jaybird110127,

@cordova5029 @KaraLG84 LOL I can just see it now. So the audio sounds like, let's say, a scene in a horror movie or something. But look at the video, and it's someone brushing their teeth.

This was my first ever record player I got back in 2016. What a piece of crap! I'm sorry, Randy!

jaybird110127,

@jmd2000 LOL yeah that player is a piece of crap! Off speed, bad quality.

I'm officially registered for the ACB convention in July. I'll even be going on the Kennedy space Center tour, which better not disappoint, given the price tag.

jaybird110127,

@munchkinbear @kd6cae LOL for that price he should get to go into space! LOL jk but still.

I just had a in which NASA decided to end the Voyager 1 mission. But rather than just stopping listening or whatever, they launched a rock at near lightspeed which, if successful, would collide with and destroy the space probe. This mission was successful.

Completed my sleep study around 5:50 this morning. I had a really hard time getting to sleep with all those wires all over my body. A few hours in, the sleep technologist came in to put me on CPAP since she could tell I have sleep apnea, which I had suspected all along, but had to get officially diagnosed before anything else can happen. Now waiting for the official report and diagnosis.

jaybird110127,

@JamminJerry Already done. A hot shower works wonders.

jaybird110127,

@cordova5029 I actually don't know. I keep meaning to record myself sleeping but haven't gotten around to it.

jaybird110127,

@blindbat84 I'm honestly not sure because of all the other factors. Different room usually doesn't bother me, but all those wires all over my body sure did.

@jaybird110127 Curious, what were you playing in this SAPI5 DECtalk demo from 2011? http://www.bluegrasspals.com/dt50demo.mp3

jaybird110127,

@datajake1999 LOL I forgot I ever posted any of that anywhere. I'm guessing Q-audio?

When your ancient Synology DS216J gets into a mode where you can't actually shut it down, meanwhile it's running extremely slowly. I ended up hard power cycling it by accident, it wouldn't come up, then I did it on purpose and it did.

This plus the fact that it's running really slowly while the disks are in good health...

Time for a replacement. Ordered a DS224+ just now.

jaybird110127,

@nick Good to hear.

Tonight I go into a sleep center to do a sleep study which will almost certainly diagnose me with sleep apnea. Forty years ago today, on Saturday, May 19, 1984, some CBS executives probably had a sleepless night after Michael Larson won an unprecedented $110,237 on Press Your Luck. That was when the show was taped. Press Your Luck was a thirty-minute show, but this particular episode went on so long that they had to split it into two episodes, which aired on Friday, June 8, and Monday, June 11, 1984. They were never seen again until a GSN documentary in 2003. You can doubtless find both the original episodes and the documentary, "Big Bucks: the Press Your Luck Scandal" on Youtube.

It looks like my little friend is back. My window bird came back for another year. Quite a persistent little thing, apparently.

jaybird110127,

@Kaliah Yeah that sounds like the House Wren sound on my bird clock I got for Christmas in 1998. Here's what that sound on my clock sounds like.

It's June 10, 2024, at 4:00 PM Central US time. Almost every blind person that owns an iPhone has installed the iOS 18 beta. Some are playing retro games with the new, AI driven screen recognition. Others are gladly using DecTalk as their main voice, the Enhanced Siri voices that use ML to speak using emotion and context, as their reading voice, Eloquence as their notification voice (sent to one ear to minimize distractions), and finding it amazing that VoiceOver emphasizes italic text, and emboldens bold text. Others are finding it amazing that they can navigate their whole phone using Braille screen input, searching to find things by typing a few letters, or just swiping down through everything. A few are connecting their multi-line Braille displays, and feeling app icons and images, made much more understandable through touch, using an AI filter.

The next day, when news of all these features filters down to Android users, they quickly begin hammering Google, wanting DecTalk and Eloquence on their Pixel phones, like iOS users have. But Google is silent as always, only just now having given Chromebook users high quality Google TTS voices.

Note: great liberty has been taken to imagine the coolest outcome for the vague feature announcements Apple gave for VoiceOver users. We'll see just how cool, or not, they actually are on June 10.

jaybird110127,

@pixelate New VoiceOver voices? DECtalk? Nah, I'm betting they've added the Apple II's Echo II speech synthesizer, and some form of Votrax.

Well thank goodness for Backblaze computer backup. Just now I executed a command, the reasons for which are too involved to get into here. But I missed one crucial letter, and the result was that, if left to its own devices, it would have happily wiped out everything on my C: drive. Luckily I realized what I'd done immediately, and stopped it while it was munching through a directory I have in Dropbox. I stood to lose everything in my root directory, along with all my batch files, most but not all of which I had on another system. Backblaze to the rescue, and I got everything back. Whew! Moral of the story? Back up your stuff, kids! You never know when you might need it.

jaybird110127,

@remixman Nah, they'd have just taken the drive apart and thrown it on a concrete floor…which probably wouldn't have made much of a sound, given that's an internal SSD in an Intel Nuc.

Found this hiding in the Android Open Source Project section of Phone Tones, called Themos (2).wav. What is this melody actually called? It reminds me of an icecream truck.

jaybird110127,

@x0 I know it as Turkey in the Straw. Also, Do your Ears Hang Low.

So I keep hearing this hold music for local NLS library, various doctors offices etc recently. Its from the 80's or 90's, in the key of C minor and has a clap percussion sound on a delay with what sounds like a synth lead melody. I absolutely love it, just can't find it anywhere.

jaybird110127,

@jpellis2008 Opus number 1? It's on Youtube.

Have any of you ever heard of clocky the alarm clock?

jaybird110127,

@evilcookies98 I heard about that many years ago on a tech news blurb on the now defunct Tellme phone service.

mattcurtis, to random

so, here is something interesting, the yamaha PCS 500, old keyboard from back when, has some really good sounds, that give me an 80s/90s vibe to it, take a listen if you want

jaybird110127,

@mattcurtis I have one of these keyboards. Also have a PC-100, PCS-30, and Pc-1000.

jaybird110127,

@mattcurtis In case you haven't heard this, here's an example of my PCS-500 playing a playcard, in this case, Edelweiss. This is the version of Edelweiss that comes with the PC-100, my 500 didn't come with any cards so I'm not sure what cards it would have come with.

Silly Eloquence finding. Spell, Boy. B, o, y. That's all well and good. But if you put a second o before the y, you get the following: Booy.
