Constantly annoys me whenever I get one of these Isuzu ads here in Australia, when they're all pronouncing their own brand name incorrectly.

Beyond a certain base level of computer use, decision paralysis is a real issue for switching to Linux.

I've been using Kubuntu on and off on my desktop for a while now. I am very satisfied with KDE Plasma, and am looking forward to trying Plasma 6, but I hate Snaps with a passion. I need a distro that "just works" though, and I can't imagine I'll be fully comfortable switching to an Arch based one unless and until Valve does a full Steam OS release on desktop.

If the ICC really wants Cricket to get the attention of Americans during this World Cup, there's just one thing that needs to happen.

There needs to be a Mankad.

Preferably in a game like India Vs. Pakistan. Or maybe even in a game involving the US team itself. After all, they're more likely to see it as equivalent to a Baseball player being caught stealing by the pitcher, so they're not going to be biased against the tactic.

liampomfret,
@liampomfret@mastodon.social avatar

...okay, I'll admit that I didn't see USA beating a team like Pakistan as plausible enough to consider, but I suppose that works too.

So Microsoft plans to add unspecified new features to Windows 10? When the OS is going end-of-life in October next year?
What do you want to bet this is back-porting all of the advertising and AI bullshit that's making people not want to move to Windows 11 in the first place?
I'd intended to dual boot for a while yet, but I guess I'll be moving over to Linux permanently sooner than I expected.

From the Lettersite (formerly Birdsite). Apparently Little Bobby Tables is all grown up now, and he's carried on the tradition with naming of his kid.

Bit the bullet and bought the Synology. Found a local company actually doing a reasonable EOFY discount on it, and in the end I just trusted them over the TerraMaster. Both in terms of software quality, and in terms of softward and hardware security.

@liampomfret@mastodon.social avatar

The longer I hold out on a deal on the Synology, the more I second guess myself about if I should just find some sort of cheap NAS mobo and build one from scratch. Not sure what's available on the market locally for doing that though.

@liampomfret@mastodon.social avatar

Still waiting for some decent EOFY sales on stuff for this NAS. Would be good if I could find some nice SSD prices too, would love to be able to get a proper Linux setup on the laptop.

The devil's greatest trick was convincing people that there's no moral culpability in intentional inaction to prevent foreseeable harms.

Just how long does Ticketek hold on to consumer information anyway? Apart from tracking problematic patrons, there's nothing in their business model really that should require retention of consumer data to begin with.

Got to make sure I don't drink too much alcohol today. Need to have some left over when the tangerine Palpatine wannabe gets sentenced.

Is this a good time to bring up my deeply held belief that people should be allowed to vote in elections even if they are convicted felons

liampomfret,
@liampomfret@mastodon.social avatar

@mcc Honestly, yes. It would be irresponsible to not exploit the situation and get a bill up for a vote right now giving all convicted felons across the US the right to vote. What Republican is going to dare to be seen as opposing Convicted Felon Donald Trump’s ability to vote?

Convicted Felon Donald Trump has such a wonderful ring to it.

Really shouldn't let myself be drawn into bad old internet debating habits. Back in the day, the debating didn't quite feel pointless, even when the topics were silly. If you couldn't convince the other person, you might at least convince readers. But today, there's no point debating propagandists and giving attention to their bullshit.

Hmmmm. Do I renew my Bitdefender subscription, or do I use the date that ends as a prompt to force myself to fully switch to Linux?

...suspect I'll be renewing, I think there's a few devices that I can't switch over just yet. Oh well, at least it's cheap.

FFS Unisuper. Get our funds out of these climate wreckers. This is just disgusting.

With the current enshittification of search engines, I'm honestly starting to wonder if it's time for large independent websites to start hosting link directories again.

Why are we still even having this conversation? When did the Liberal Party turn into an organisation of "alternative facts"?

And before I get a pile on from everyone, that's really not what the Liberal Party used to be. We may have disagreed with their position, but they were never like the Republicans or even One Nation or Clive Palmer who actually have sought out fringe views as "facts".

liampomfret,
@liampomfret@mastodon.social avatar

@joannejacobs Feels like it first got started with the group in the party opposed to action on climate change, then really got running as the opposition within the party to Turnbull coalesced around Morrison.

Students, please use left align instead of justify in your assignments. I don't care how pretty you think it might be, the inconsistent spacing between words with justify makes your paper harder to read.

Ugh. This latest student has cited papers from an obviously fraudulent publisher. As in, a paper on Amazon and e-commerce supposedly published in an Egyptology journal. In what would does any reasonable student think that's credible? How did they even find this muck in the first place?
